pretty good
I think in this partisan world it takes a lot of guts to stand on principle even if it breaks partisan lines, especially if it means fighting against the most powerful man in the country/world. It should be celebrated.
…but I still think that they many have foundational beliefs that I find abhorrent and would like for them to change.
While I’d like to believe that they’re taking a principled stand, I have to wonder if George Conway isn’t doing the calculus that if Trump loses his hold on the Republican Party, he’ll be able to stay relevant due to his association with the Lincoln Project while maintaining relevance in the Trumpy Republican Party through his wife.
>What do you think about the Lincoln Project?
EDIT: As usual, I will recommend The States Project which focuses on state legislature seats that could decide which party holds the majority.
I am wholeheartedly in favor of voting coalitions and temporary alliances. I am more than glad to have their assistance in resisting Trump. Once that’s done, we can go back to disagreeing on policy.
They’re grifters, but the ads are amusing.
I’m not really the target audience, but the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
They are politically some one i give the most respect to. I think we get to into our echo chambers, so when someone does what they believe in against party lines it takes backbone
I absolutely loved their Lindsey Graham hate commercial.
Parasite
For the time being – they are a useful ally.
The minute MAGA is no longer in power – that may change drastically.
I would hope that The Lincoln Project, the Bullwark, and the whole out of power classic Republicans would learn in the long run that their entire party mechanism created this situation for MAGA to come to power and that their approach to issues neeeds to be drastically overhauled.
But I’m not going to hold my breath. I will listen for the sound of them sharpening knives to stab us in the back while the MAGA downfall celebration is still ongoing.
They seem to be a money sink for the left. If you go with POSIWID, their only purpose is to collect money from the left and use it to give Trump more attention. So, if they want to self fund, great. Or take donations from the right as a sort of help line for the disillusioned who arent quite ready to switch to D, also great. But I’m not seeing evidence of that.
They were useful in 2020 getting moderate republicans to become never trumpers. Now that lines are established, it’s just kind of cringey boomer bait.
I consider myself patriotic so I like that they use that aspect to call out trumps treason and such
They’re clearly not having an impact. Indications show that 8% of Republicans voted for Clinton, 6% for Biden, and 9% for Harris. That’s not much higher than Trump’s 8%, 5%, and 4% of democrat voter crossover and Trump has done everything possible to alienate democrats.
If anything, their attempts have managed to pull candidates for dem party to the right and cost them votes since the higher republican crossover years also happen to be the years Trump won.
We can work with them but they are Bush-era Republicans who mostly have the same politics. We should not allow them to ingratiate themselves.
I like that these conservatives get under Trump’s skin. Their ads are great. Conservatives are good at being brutal. We could learn from them.
I dont have any problems with them.
Same thing as Oren Crass for New Republicans: they just dont like their party is stolen.
They don’t go after Trump on policy because they still partly agree.
The enemy of my enemy is still the enemy.
Considering that his vote totals keep going up, I’m kind of doubting the actual popularity of these never-Trump or anti-Trump Republicans. It seems like they’re better at fundraising and messaging than they are at actually convincing Republicans to oppose Trump.
They make great anti-Trump ads. We need them putting out that kind of content. They aren’t friends though. As soon as Trump is no longer their target, they’ll go right back to sniping Democrats.
It has been repeatedly exposed as a scam
And even if it wasn’t, it’s run by bush era guys who are just as bad as trump
Fuck them
They are useful, and good at what they do, but what do they do about the downcard? I do love their ads, and they are pretty fearless.
I respect people who have consistent principles.
Conservative politics isn’t a problem.
It’s bending your own morals to attack somebody else.
Sure, the group has drawn attention for its opposition to the former president and their highly publicized media campaigns. However, one way to look at their operation is as a for-profit venture capitalizing on the political climate of hate and division surrounding Trump. That whole operation at its heart, is a business. They’ve effectively turned Trump’s unpopularity into a commodity for a specific audience.
I feel like the people running the Lincoln Project are just “grifters,” exploiting the deep-seated animosity many people feel toward conservatives. They recognized an opportunity to profit off this hatred by creating a brand that catered to it. They’ve been very successful at it as well, attracting wealthy donors and building a substantial revenue stream. Those donors (whom are affluent liberals) are willing to fund media campaigns, ads, and other forms of anti-Trump content. For those liberal supporters, it’s an easy transaction: donate money to a group that says what they already believe, which reinforces their existing worldview.
What people overlook because of their political biases is that their motivations seem to lie more in financial enrichment than in promoting any true political ideology. While they portray themselves as having traditional Republican values, the group has never shown any interest in promoting conservative principles or helping conservative candidates succeed in elections. They have not championed any Republican or conservative cause, nor have they contributed to the election of any right-leaning politicians.
If you dig deep you’ll find that their endorsements have been exclusively for Democrats. They could easily find conservative candidates to back if they were interested in promoting any kind of conservative values. Instead, they have chosen to use their platform to promote only Democrats. This makes it clear at least to me that their true agenda is only to create political influence for Democrats, harnessing a political climate to generate profits.
Basically angry men yelling at a brick wall.
Perfectly happy to let them punch at MAGA.
Perfectly happy to keep them out of office.
