What’s something you used to like, but now dislike with age?

r/

I’m in my 20s and starting to notice that some things I used to enjoy just don’t feel the same anymore—not because I’m getting older, but because my perspective is changing. What’s something you used to love but now dislike, not just due to age, but because your mindset or values shifted?

Live sporting events specifically, and large crowds in general

Politics, and now any public policy discussion

Being around partying/drunk people. Never loved it, but absolutely hate it now.

    Driving

    Commercial air travel

Fast food. I lost some weight, and it lost its appeal.

Any type of fast food. I lost my taste for it years ago. I was in the Navy for a bit and it seemed like a treat sometimes but to tell you the truth, I prefer institutional cafeteria food when it’s done right.

Sports. I still occasionally enjoy watching a part of a game, but I have trouble caring who wins or loses.

    I lost interest in cars.

Each and every September when I was a kid I’d ride my bike to the new car dealerships in town; Ford, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Buick, Dodge and Plymouth to see the new arrivals.

The salesmen would let me sit in the showroom models and tell me about the V8 horsepower.

Now? They stopped making a couple of them, they are 4 cylinders, they all look the same and the salespersons tell me about the touchscreen. BORING!

Dungeons and Dragons. Lived for that game when I was in my 20s. Now I just find myself staring at a character sheet with scribbles on it while some guy tries to take me through the same old tropes.

Going out to eat. I’d much rather eat at home.

I stopped drinking alcohol. I have responsibilities that may require my presence at any hour, and I like to keep busy doing meaningful things. Any kind of buzz just gets in the way. Plus, I want to be a vibrant, healthy, and positive person to the extent that I am able.

Bars – used to love going to the bar but haven’t really enjoyed that since my mid- late 20s with the exception of catching up with my oldest friends once or twice a year (at most).

Travel. It wears me down. Plus, I have a hard time sleeping if its not my bed

I used to like crowds; think it was exciting to be part of them, part of something big. Hate them now.

I stopped wearing makeup in my 30s. I no longer wanted to waste my time and money fussing over meeting other people’s beauty standards.

Air travel. Back in the day, it’s was comfortable and fun. Now it’s just an ordeal. Herded like cattle, food has gone from pretty good to awful to nonexistent. Seats are ridiculous. Plus I‘be logged enough airport time to last a lifetime. I still do it because I have to, but I really dislike it.

Ageing and perspective go hand-in-hand. The more life experience you have the more your perspective changes. Sometimes you just outgrow things.

I remember years ago, going to the Outback restaurant and ordering the blooming onion. These days I wouldn’t touch that heart attack on a plate with a 10 foot pole.

Gaming. I came of age in the Atari 2600 generation, and was into console and PC strategy gaming well into my 20s. I could once burn off a whole day from sunrise to sunset getting lost in an RPG or strategy game.

Now it just feels like a very unproductive use of my time 😏

Driving at night. Maybe it’s all the illegal headlight upgrades people are doing and are blinding. Just takes the fun out of nighttime cruises.

  41. Junebug1923 Avatar

Driving. I used to sit in my daddy’s lap and steer the car while we drove down and old country road. I learned to love driving at an early age. Now, in my town, it’s crazy on the road. I get a feeling of dread whenever I have to go somewhere in the car.

Chocolate. Used to be able to eat a whole slab or box a day. Now I might eat one a week.

Drinking alcohol. I used to live for Friday cocktails. Truthfully, I had a serious problem. It seems it just took me longer than most to learn appropriate coping skills. Once I did the work, I just lost the urge to drink.

Aging changes perspective. It’s literally part of aging.
