at the end of my 10th grade year i had cut off my friends because they were very draining which had me feeling very lonely. i decided over that summer I would make myself more desirable to the white people at my school so I could finally have real friends, with my ultimate goal being going to prom with a big group of friends and a date.
i spent my summer vacation researching on tiktok and pinterest on how to be white and what they wear and what their impulse purchases were so by the first day of school, i would have an easier time making friends. let’s just say, it didn’t work and no amount of lululemon could hide my blackness💀

Do you feel more comfortable in your own skin now?
do you regret doing all of that? of all the things you did to try and be white what was the most prominent one? why did you feel like having white friends would be less draining than having black friends?
damn, this hit hard as a black girl who grew up wishing she was white. i hope you’re starting to embrace the beauty of being black now.
what steps did you take to try to “become” white? did you change your music taste, or even shut out other black kids your age? stuff like that.
For what it’s worth, most white teenagers don’t like each other anyway

Are you going to try being yellow next?
if it makes you feel better, as a white girl, i didnt like those girls either 😭 way too rude and obsessed with brands etc.
i have two questions for you 🙂 Have you embraced more of your own culture now? And have you found better friends who accept who you are?
so did it work?
A reverse Dolezol. It was worth a shot, I suppose!
I’m glad you saw your worth! As a black girl myself I wanted to be white when I was younger too. Before you started actively trying to become white, did people consider you whitewashed? People would say to me I “speak proper” and sounded white and it was so frustrating!!
I’m white and in junior high and high school I tried to be Asian. Not even anime type stuff, like spiked hair, Fast and the Furious, and Asian gangster rap.
I guess there’s no question here…
