Do you judge people based on the car they drive?

r/

I drive an old car and feel ashamed when i stand at the stop light surrounded by new expensive cars. I think people inside them look at my old car and make fun of me.

Not for driving an old car.  Nothing wrong with an old car.

But if you have an idiotic lifted truck, The kind that has never been used for actual work.  I’m going to judge the hell out of that.

  2. sexrockandroll Avatar

Old cars, no, honestly I might feel respect for keeping it running. I judge people more for having cars I don’t perceive they can afford. Or giant trucks they don’t need.

Uncles a neurosurgeon, his wife is an anesthesiologist. He drives a 10+ year old Subaru. Can’t ever judge

I have an awesome 800hp z07 Corvette for my summer but my daily is a 2015 sedan and 2002 pickup

It makes smile when someone with a 1600$ monthly payment with Lifted new Chevy truck pulls up looks at me smugly 🤷🏽‍♂️

  5. Bobbob34 Avatar

    Yeah but not like that.

A tesla? A giant pickup? A jeep with gigantic tires? Those kinds of things, yes.

Opinion of people who judge others based on their cars isn’t worth valuing

Who cares, your average person is massively in debt, it looks like they have money but they don’t. When you look around, think of a $800 a month car payment, some are paying over $1000 a month for a vehicle. I gave $3500 for my car 4 years ago and it still runs strong.

    Only if it’s a Cybertruck.

A ‘car’ that isn’t good as a truck, looks stupid beyond beyond believe, is falling apart worse than expected, and the insanely high price tag puts more $$$ in the pockets of the richest Nazi who’s running the U.S.

Hell yeah I’m gonna judge anyone driving one.

  9. Oh_Wiseone Avatar

Nope – don’t care what you drive. People who do that, have a seriously limited mindset on now they judge people. The only time the type of car hits my radar is when it is belching fumes / pollution or very loud noise. Other than that – to each their own.

    Unless they drive a cybertruck.

The problem with your question is that you seem to care. Is the car meant to get you where you need to go, or is it meant to boost a bullshit ego?

  12. JelloLevel9382 Avatar

I respect those who are financially set with a good career that choose to drive a a used mediocre vehicle. I judge those that are living pay check to pay check and financing a fancy sports car.

  13. Managed-Chaos-8912 Avatar

I only judge people based on them having a vehicle I consider stupidly customized. Things like a major lift with no mud on the vehicle, Carolina squat, dropping the vehicle, and ground reflects. All those people either have more money than sense, or a deployable lack of both.

I drive a 15 year old car with scratches and creaks, but I own it. I could buy something in cash that would be way nicer, but I don’t want to. My insurance is cheap, and it is its own built-in anti-theft

  15. ChodeSandwhich Avatar

I do. I think the vehicle one chooses can say a lot about them. Many drivers just buy whatever appliance fits their needs and budget, but if I see something older or more unique I assume they probably picked it because they like it.

Most people at my work are driving big, new 4×4’s and utes. I drive a little old hatch. We all make the same money so all they’ve essentially done is increase their expense to get to work by about 15x the necessary.
Maybe one of them goes off-road and camping every weekend and gets it’s worth, the rest just want a nice new car.

No. I think fancier cars are best bought for personal comfort. I love good AC and speakers and the like. I don’t judge based on cars because it’s an asinine waste of my time and I have better things to pay attention to, namely the road and my banger Tay Tay (Taylor Swift) playlist that I’m probably blasting

  19. shazaray4691 Avatar

Don’t care… I’ll drive anything that gets me where I need to go safely. and reliably…

Disney master the age of the car, what makes me judge you is the cleanliness of the interior. If it’s full of food wrappers and your windows are hazy from cigarette smoke, I’m judging you.

I drive a 2007 manual shift zippycar. I am badass in my wee hatchback and challenge you to judge me. I got gears.

  22. MountainRock8517 Avatar

I’m a man driving a 2014 Honda CRV what does that say about me? 😂

Can’t beat the gas mileage though. Plus it’s indestructible.

  23. transienttherapsid Avatar

Yes, but reversed. I see an old car and assume the driver is smart or financially disciplined and knows how to maintain a car.

  24. nianderthal Avatar

No…. I’m jealous that I was an idiot and sold a 10 year old car with 60k miles on it in pristine condition because I hate driving… but everyone said it was time because I make more money. Treat myself. 2 more years of payments to go. I do love my new car tho too.

Incidentally people usually think I’m broke until they see what I’m driving. It’s cool for being low key but kind of awful when you actually want to buy something.

I don’t operate the way most of society does, but I absolutely judge the opposite way. If your car is over the top high end, if you’ve added a bunch of extra, if you have a giant ass jacked up truck, if you drive a swasticar or a cyber stuck, I am going to think you’re fucking foolish for spending so much time and money on what you’re driving. I’m impressed by practical vehicles, and I appreciate people using them until they fall apart.
