I’m 27, living in Germany, working as a management consultant — life looks good on paper. I’m earning well, I have great colleagues, and I’m on the path that’s traditionally seen as “successful.”
But here’s the thing: I’ve been single for four months now, and during that time I’ve started to reflect more deeply on myself. I’ve been exploring self-love, self-acceptance, all the usual self-improvement stuff — but something’s missing.
I find it hard to stay motivated without a real sense of purpose. I don’t feel fulfilled. Robert Greene suggests paying attention to what energizes you — but truthfully, I don’t know what that is yet.
How did you find your purpose? What truly motivates you in life?
What do you do when the usual markers of “success” no longer excite you?

I found purpose in being happy and pursuing happiness in solitude.
Once I stopped caring about competing with others I became more relaxed and joyful.
This path is not for everyone though, just keep reflecting, trying different things and pick what’s the best for you
I’ve been living in Berlin now for about 5 years and honestly, it’s one of the most miserable places to live. Gives me a whole different perspective of the “civilised world”. The people I’ve met. The stories I’ve heard all point to an empty existence of robotic people just going through the programmed path.
The point I’m trying to me it is that you need to leave, take a vacation. Travel. Travel to those parts of the world where westerners consider poor and suffering. You’ll come to realize that in that poverty, those people live a far more purposeful life. That might inspire a radical change in you and that mental shift can shine light on something deeper in you and help you find some purpose.
For me, I found something of a purpose after losing love.
Well I think that it’s a little bit impossible to ever just state what fully fulfils you cause we’re all moving and changing so the best we can do is go towards that “purpose”/something that excites you
Personally I usually know what I want and I see the possibilities but I wait out before making the decision and in the meanwhile I understand what I actually prefer
But for me it all changed when I started to look more optimistic at life and began to cherish the little things more
Last time I bought a few herbs from a shop and I can’t wait till I have some free time and check them all out in different sets for tea. I was literally so happy when I went out of the shop. Like a little kid literally
