[29m] Fired, living at home, no friends, hobbies or relationships. Lowest point in life and not sure where to go.

r/

I [29m] was fired from work over a blunder in a meeting and pretty much lost what could have been a relatively easy $100k unionized government job just like that. Getting that job took literally years of hard work, pain and sacrifice and in a day my life was flipped on its head

The road to getting that job was tough and I gave up all my friendships and screwed up relationships for it. I was also pretty miserable through it all but did it cause it was all I knew and it paid the bills.

I’m not sure what to do next. Im beginning to hate my field (civil engineering) but I have no other skills since I’ve been doing this for the past 8 years so I have no option but to go back. Worst part is I probably might not even be able to go back cause the community is so small and word gets around. Even if I think about doing something else my mind simply can’t come up with anything.

It’s so fucked all around. I had no idea my life could implode so quickly just like that.

You get up tomorrow and try again. No one is perfect, we make mistakes to learn from them and not repeat them again.

But if you’re feeling down, you need to address that real fast. Believe it or not but people pick up on your “energy”, so if you’re sad, frustrated and desperate. It just makes life that much more difficult.

Try to re-engage personal hobbies you enjoy. Get or stay active whether that means riding a bike, walking/hiking or lifting weights. Pokémon. Whatever it is you enjoy. You can and will come out and look back in a few years to laugh at yourself.

When you’re at your lowest, you can choose to go up.

It’s a tough time, take small steps.

    1. Focus on mental health
    2. Focus on physical health
    3. Work on finance, getting a job

A hobby helps with the 1st and if it’s a sport also the 2nd.

I might be able to help. I’m a civil engineer and my industry is still desperate to find people to fill roles. One mistake isn’t enough to entirely end a career just be to front that you’ve made a mistake and it won’t happen again.

Where are you located? Sounds like you should just move and start over in a new city. That’s what I did at 30, and it turned into an awesome career and making awesome friends all over the US.

You lost a GOVERNMENT JOB ? That’s also Unionized ? That seems hard to do , especially over a “blunder”
