How Do You Handle Uncertainty About Major Life Decisions?

r/

Hey all,

I’m currently at a point where I need to make a huge decision about my future, but I’m struggling with uncertainty. Whether it’s career choices, moving to a new city, or a big life change, the fear of making the wrong choice is paralyzing.

How do you approach major life decisions without letting doubt take over? Do you have any strategies for weighing options or coping with the anxiety that comes with big decisions? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Just do the thing your scared of. Literally everything is temporary. Everything. If it’s a bad decision it will resolve its self eventually. Life can have pivots and U turns.

I suffer from decision paralysis too… I wish I would just do the things and stop fussing over the what if’s. It always goes better when I do that.
My life would be way different and undoubtedly better if I had stopped being afraid of temporary discomfort and had not chosen the easy paths.

You will always have doubt no matter what you decide. I have always found that you think so much about something incase you make the wrong decision but once you make the decision you kind of stop thinking about the other options.

My broad take in life has been if you’re agonising between two things, then odds are it’s a coin toss. As in if I asked you if you want a ton of cash or a ton of manure, that’s an easy choice, because one is clearly better than the other. But if two things are very very hard to choose between, it’s probably because the pros and cons are so closely aligned that you’ll drive yourself insane trying to pick between them, so the end result is…just pick one. Hindsight is 20/20, but all any of us can do is make decisions using the best information we had at the time we made the decision. It might be wrong, but you can’t avoid that outcome by tormenting yourself.

Weigh up the pros and cons, then decide.
