Real fatigue is way more terrifying than ppl admit.

r/

like, we joke abt being tired all the time, but the kind of exhaustion i’m dealing with? it’s not normal. i’m in my 20s, and i wake up every day feeling like i’ve run a marathon in my sleep.

my brain is buzzing, ready to go, full of ideas and energy. but my body? it’s just not responding. it’s like being trapped in slow motion. doing the bare minimum feels impossible.

and honestly, sometimes it feels like it’d be easier to just… not wake up. i don’t want that to sound dramatic, but it’s the truth. not knowing why i feel this way makes it scarier.

if anyone else has been here—how did you cope? what helped? even just hearing “same” would help me not feel so alone.

I believe that you’re genuinely just tired of doing the same shit over and over again. Maybe try to just relax at home for a bit play some video games if you do and just enjoy yourself. I would say same I would try to relate to you but my type of tired comes from the lack of sleep not what you’re experiencing I know you want to here same but I can’t sit here and lie to you

It’s a little difficult to help you without knowing your life. But it sounds like pretty standard burnout and onset of depression?

You should consult a physician or therapist.
You should definitely consult the physician first because you’ll get prescribed some test to check out your body’s chemistry.

It’s quite common for a deficiency to be at play here. Don’t go popping vitamins instead of seeing a doctor. You want to know if your body is not doing something right.

If everything comes back normal you can see a therapist and they’ll help you figure it out.

Go doctor bro especially if it’s developed and it hasn’t always been like that. You may have some underlying problem good luck brother. Or just start smoking crackcocaine

Following, I have the same struggle. My family doesn’t seem to understand I can’t just “get up” and “stop being lazy”.

Please get checked out for sleep apnea. Waking up feeling like you do is a symptom. Your brain isn’t getting oxygen. You stop breathing in your sleep and it can and will kill you if left untreated.

There are different types of sleep apnea and different levels. You don’t need to be overweight to have it. So please get yourself checked out.

I got really sick with something in my early 20’s. Still to this day have no idea what it was but I was bedridden for a month with chronic and intense fatigue. It started out feeling like a cold/flu and lingered for so long. A simple flight of stairs was almost too much. The three flights I needed to take to get to my dorm after going uphill for a full block to get to my building from the school were enough to put me on the floor and gasping for breath. I still don’t know why I didn’t go to the hospital.

As others mentioned it could be a real issue. Sleep apnea, thyroid problem, depression, even some types of cancer, etc. see a doctor, they can run some tests and narrow down the causes. That isn’t normal and should be fixable!

Sounds like my luteal phase of pmdd 😅 sucks

Could be fibromyalgia – chronic fatigue and pain. Do you experience pain?

I’d talk to a physician or a rheumatologist since there’s no one diagnosis for it – it’s diagnosed by exclusion. Its a tedious process but could give you a way forward.

    I wish you well.

SAME I started feeling that way at 18, went to a doc. They basically did a few blood tests and I had vitamin d deficiency so they thought that was it. I got through all the meds and got blood tested again and wasn’t deficient anymore, but I was still DEAD TIRED. Like falling asleep driving 10 mins mid day tired. They had me do a sleep study and a multiple sleep latency test to test for sleep disorders and sleep apnea. Turns out I have narcolepsy. Fun fact: sleep disorders tend to show up in late teens early 20s. Get that shit checked by a doctor. It might take a while but assuming they can figure out the issue, you’ll feel so much better. Good luck!!

Go to the doctor. What if you’re internally bleeding?

  12. unicornbitch88 Avatar

Have you checked your vitamine D and Iron levels ? It might cause extreme fatigue

  13. Jimmymylifeup Avatar

you should make a visit to the doctor. ive been extremely exhausted and thought this isnt normal i am more exhausted than “normal” turns out i am extremely anemic. sometimes it can be that simple. all my symptoms seem to stem from being anemic. apparently also the anxiety/depression/irritability.

35 years old myself, without the help of prescription stimulants I would sleep 22 hours a day. I have an array of untreatable autoimmune disorders and am 100% certain that I have idiopathic hypersomnia (I don’t see the point of doing a sleep study for an official diagnosis because it also has no treatment aside from lifestyle adjustments and prescription stimulants and I’m already doing everything recommended). Been ill for 21 years now and my brain has slowed way down too, it sucks.

PLEASE go see a doctor!! If your brain is still buzzing and energetic, this isn’t depression, this is something completely physical, and you absolutely could have a condition that’s treatable and doctors can get you back to normal!! You might not, you might have something more like my problems, but hopefully you don’t and you won’t need much to get you back on track.

Either way, it probably won’t get better on its own so go get checked out. 🙂

I am also in my early 20s and felt the same way for years. I’ve been diagnosed with depression since a teenager so attributed it to that, but later ended up being diagnosed with sleep apnea.

The CPAP machine didn’t work well for me, but I ended up having surgery to improve my airways and it’s been life changing. I now feel like a completely new person. It was truly shocking how much more productive I became once I wasn’t constantly tired lol

Definitely look into having a sleep study done! They should be able to see if your body isn’t going through the correct sleep schedule and narrow down what’s causing this. Best wishes 🙂

Been there. Went in for a check at the doctor because I was so tired of being exhausted. Even simple tasks took all the life right out of me. Found out my vitamin D was critically low. A few months of supplements had me feeling much better, pretty easy fix.

It’s worth getting yourself checked out for this. You’re not crazy and deserve to feel better!

Honestly I have felt the same since I was 25 and it’s excruciatingly frustrating. With me it’s brain fog, too. It’s like I’m just trapped in some kind of syrup and everything just works slower than it should do.

I have had to become self-employed in part because I just couldn’t work a traditional 9-5 feeling as shitty and exhausted as I often do. People insinuate you are stupid or clumsy because they simply don’t understand how hard it is to function when feeling like this.

In my case they have ruled out sleep apnoea, thyroid problems. I think it is a combination of depression and my metabolism functioning far slower than it should.

It seems to be becoming increasingly common, I think it’s a product of this very unnatural and stress-heavy life we all lead. I hope you can feel better soon.

I have this. I also have two kids under the age of two but they sleep through the night. When I wake up every morning no matter what time it is I’m still always tired.

Even if my mind wants to wake up and do stuff my body feels slow and sluggish I don’t want to move or wake up. I hate the feeling so much, I’m thinking of trying new meds for it or caffeine which I never really drank. It’s so bad. I know what you’re talking about. I’m having trouble getting myself to even look forward to the next day, it’s really hard to exist when there’s no choice but to be exhausted and unable to do the stuff that should get done.

  20. traumahawk88 Avatar

Sleep issues suck. Truly. I’ve got sleep apnea and narcolepsy (type 1, with cataplexy). I’m not gonna write an essay, but I will say I absolutely do empathize with you. See a sleep specialist.

This could be a numerous amount of health or mental health related issues. You need to make a list of every strange or new symptom you have that pairs with your abnormal exhaustion, show it to a professional, and keep trying until you figure out what exactly it is. You shouldn’t be feeling like you’re deteriorating at your age.

  22. confusedquokka Avatar

You need to see a doctor, this isn’t how you should feel. Sounds like it’s depression but could be other factors.

  23. allofme6 Avatar

Chronic illness is no joke. It’s a tired that sleep can’t fix a lot of people don’t get that. You may want to check in with your doctor if you haven’t already

  24. Lippshitz Avatar

Same problem. I did all the tests and no doctor found a problem. Creatine has been the only thing thats helped slightly and possibly AG1 but idk. I think its the creatine.

  25. RuinInFears Avatar

I had problems with feeling tired. Have to take iron but my brother has narcolepsy meds (I have anemia kept feeling like I was going to pass out/faint)

It got to a point I was so tired I basically couldn’t move around or think. If your head is always pounding it could be iron.

Not an actual solution, but when you need some quick help, try drinking black coffee with some sweet snack with it in the morning.

Make sure you’ve hydrated well with plenty of water before and after.
