Does your hand feel heavier when you copy (ctrl+c) until you paste (ctrl+v) it?

r/

My wife swears up and and down that she can feel the weight of her hand lighten after she pastes something on the computer. I told her I’ve literally never met another person on this earth that has said that.

She’s also been told she should be tested for the ‘tism, so we’ve both wondered if it has something to do with that.

Wow yes! I’ve totally felt that, she’s not alone 😉

It’s because you’re carrying the weight of the clipboard!!

I don’t believe I have experienced this in the physical sense, but I am somewhat restless until I paste

Well now I’ll never not be able to “feel” this.

I honestly do not understand what you mean.

It can feel heavier because of the placebo effect, but most people do not experience this, and this goes without saying but a persons hand does not actually get heavier from this.

If your wife is using her left hand only, C is a tighter contortion than V due to layout.

Have her do it holding ctrl with the right hand… and maybe look up carpel tunnel

Mine feels “heavy” and like it’s not mine from when I touch someone (think handshake) until I can get it thoroughly washed. So I think I understand what she’s saying, but I just experience it in a different context. I’m diagnosed with OCD.

I have taught hundreds of kids to copy and paste and none of them have ever mentioned this.

However I bet if I tell them it happens they’d all believe me.

I feel like Atlas with the weight of the world on my shoulders until i can hit ctrl-v.

The ‘tism? Yes, could be a rheumatism symptom.

As a programmer, I’ve lost count of the number of times I cut something out of my code so I can paste it somewhere else, get distracted at the destination and copy something else instead of pasting the first cut. If my hand got heavier because of the cut and didn’t get lighter because I never pasted it; I don’t know what that would mean in the long term.

I have fine motor issues and I get cramps when doing control c after typing for awhile, perhaps your wife is feeling these cramps but because they are not as bad is attributing them to weight

Woah I think you unlocked something in my brain? I wouldn’t say my hand feels “heavier” but I do get the mental sensation that i’m “holding something” until I hit paste. Like my hand is full. But not actually. It’s hard to explain lol.

I also get a sort of similar sensation when my hands are “germy” even when there’s nothing actually on my hands, like after I flush a toilet. It’s sort of like there’s a red film on them until I wash them.

I’ve never consciously thought of this before, so thanks for posting this!

I keep my clipboard history on so I can paste previous things with windows+v. Imagine if your hand actually did get heavier the more you put in the clipboard 😅

Purely psychosomatic. That girl needs therapy.

Such an interesting question! I think there is more of a psychological aspect to this. “Copy” or “cut” is like starting a task and feeling the need to complete it without messing up whereas “paste” seems like a ‘task accomplished’ situation which can make you feel lighter perhaps?

It might be an auditory and musical thing.

Control-C ends with a sustained high sound and feels unresolved, and then you complete the phrase with control-v, which while it basically rhymes and has the same sound, in the phrase it descends down to completion, thus ending the musical phrase and resolving the tension.
