I tried couple of things. Vodka doesn’t botter me if it’s cold
enough, I like taste of cognac, I’m trying to learn to enjoy whisky but after half of the bottle I feel like I’m never going to like it without cola.
I like beer and wine, and pretty much always have. I like the taste of drinks like margaritas, as well. The taste of straight whiskey, well, I think I mostly “like” it because of the experience of knowing that feeling of drinking it now will lead to a better feeling later. I like the taste of straight vodka less, but I like that it is a lot cheaper usually.
I like spirits in cocktails. Can’t beat a good mojito or whiskey sour. Most beers aren’t that great tasting but I’ve found a few that are delicious. In particular, the best beer I’ve ever had was Pilsner in the Czech Republic. Absolutely lovely. I used to love cider when I was (much) younger, but one day when I was about 17 I got absolutely black-out wasted on it, woke up fully clothed in my parents’ bathtub with the worst hangover I’ve ever experienced, and now I can’t even stand the smell of it.
Yes, I really enjoy it all, mostly. There is such a wide range of products out there that all taste different which may surprise some. You really need to try a range of brands to see if you really may not like it. It’s perfectly OK for anyone who doesn’t like the taste of anything but sometimes I feel a lot of people don’t really give it a real chance.
Alcohol is brutal: Everclear (190 proof) or moonshine are hard to take. But bourbon? I quit drinking 5 years ago and still dream about the taste of a well made Kentucky Bourbon. I never had to learn to like it. I loved my first shot of bourbon and I loved my last shot of bourbon and every shot I drank in the decades between. That may have something to do with why I stopped drinking.
There are a couple kinds of rum or bourbon I genuinely enjoy sipping straight or on the rocks, but generally I do not like liquor for the taste. I do like the taste of wine and beer though.
I haven’t drank in years but yes. I did. Oh I’d still get that liquor look after a shot… feel the burn down my esophagus… sometimes even the uneasy feeling in my stomach.
And i learned to love it.
Compare it to the same way I like the way I feel after a hard work out. It’s technically pain… but at the same time I learned to enjoy it
I find that whiskey and whisky often have notes of vanilla, caramel, earth, smoke and spice that I truly enjoy. A tiny bit of water can often help open and relax the liquor such that the flavors can be more easily and readily enjoyed.
I like some stuff. I’m not sure what qualifies as “heavy alcohol” but to make an assumption there’s a world of difference between cheap vodka and even a mid grade like stoli or tito’s. The latter is pleasant in a sour candy kind of way where you pull a face slightly but go back for more.
Apply a similar concept with varying levels of preference to rums, whiskeys, etc….
I’m sure some of it is the acquired taste thing, but that’s where I am with it these days.
Not really. But, I will drink certain Wines, Cocktails and an occasional Vodka neat. I can’t stand any kind of Beer and I have tried many kinds of Beers.
Yes. A simple whiskey cocktail like an Old Fashion or Manhattan is sublime. They say it’s an acquired taste. I acquired it on my first business trip. Out for drinks, one of the partners ordered Scotch neat. Being just barely 21 I had no idea what to order in an actual bar. So, I copied the big guy. Taste acquired.
No. It’s weak enough in beer that I don’t mind it, and there are a couple of liquors that taste good enough to be worth it, but that’s in spite of the alcohol taste, not because of it.
I’ve never liked the taste of alcohol, like those extremely strong beers or drinks that arent diluted enough. But I’ve found that I do enjoy “the burn” with some smokey scotch whiskeys.
I still HATE vodka though and I could never drink it raw or with ice.
no. never did. only drank for what would happen while drinking. no great morning after story ever started with “so I was eating this bomb ass salad and you wont belive what happened next!!” nah its always “so I was drunk af with this chick right…”
THATS why I bore the horrible taste and hangovers.
I hate things that taste bad. Many kinds of alcohol do, so I don’t drink them. I’ve never been able to wrap my head around the idea that something is an “acquired taste” Fuck that.
I do drink, certainly. Some light beers, ciders, wine and other light fruity drinks.
My first ever alcohol was vodka. It was absolutely disgusting and i could not drink it without chase.
In college, i mostly stuck to vodka, but occasionally dabbled in other liquors. Same story, all of them disgusted me and I required a chaser.
In college i was introduced to beer. Beer also disgusted me. To be honest with you, beer was no more drinkable to me than liquor. I had to chase beer if i was going to drink it. So i stuck to liquor.
But in my upperclassman years, something fundamentally changed for me. Beer went from as disgusting as liquor for me, to actually drinkable. I started to be able to take big swigs and chugs of it OK. At the time, I attributed this to the fact that i had started using a lot of THC and that drinking beer while i was high had engaged some kind of arcane process in my brain of accepting the taste of beer.
Idk what the reality is. But the outcome was, beer became drinkable to me by the time I graduated college. And this is where I acquired a genuine liking for it.
I enjoy beer now. I like the taste, i like to try different kinds and i will go for different varieties depending on my mood. It’s fair to say that i like the taste of beer.
Liquor remains pretty gross to me but i can enjoy sipping on a nice whiskey (emphasis on the sipping).
I’ve never been a big wine drinker but it’s very similar to beer for me, when it comes to drinkability.
Alcohol doesn’t have a taste of its own. I like the taste of many spirits (gin, rum, some whiskeys, bourbon, many liqueurs), many red wines, some white wines, and the occasional beer.
Whiskey is great, especially bourbon and rye and Jameson. High end tequilas that have a smokey flavor are also good. Vodka is only for mixers or to shoot. Gin is only good for dumping out. Rum is only good in coke.
Yeh there is Scotch that is delicious and so are cocktails and most things involving tequila.
Beer is refreshing but weirdly hard to comment on the flavour, cider tastes like juice…
hard liquor, haven’t had enough to form an opinion.
alcohol now makes me feel like I want to crawl out of my skin, so I don’t. when I was younger it made me feel good but not anymore. wish I drank more beer, shit’s tasty.
Only absinthe/ gin tbh. The rest suck. Try equal parts absinthe/ gin and half part simple syrup. Chill it and take out the ice, then add new ice. Your welcome best martini you’ll ever have.
Does Baileys count? Some cordials and liguors are good, fruity flavors or something with a taste other than alcohol. Most AP straight alcohols taste like gasoline unless mixed with something and then the lighter alcohol taste is terrific!
Not really, but I have grown to like some beers, and stronger stuff mixed in with soda or juice can be good. But yeah I’m not good at shots cause of the taste, unless it’s Fireball. Definitely not one to drink strong alcohol on its own, even though my first drink was technically just half a glass of pure vodka
The first time I tried Pappy Van Winkle 20 year I was 37 years old. It changed everything I knew about fine spirits. Similar experience but not quite as profound was opening a bottle of Dom Perignon 1985 in 2017. Completely flipped how I felt about champagne. Cheap stuff tastes cheap. The good shit will change your view.
Yes. It’s part of the flavor profile, if it’s good.
To bit: A traditional IPA should be about 6-7% alcohol. I’ve gone to Utah, where nothing over 4% can be served except in a bar. So, at a pizza joint, I got a Utah special 4% IPA (from a brewery that also makes the normal 6.5% stuff), and honestly, I wish I’d just gotten a Coke.
God yes. I love the taste, the look, the ritual of preparation, the effects. Most of all, I like being drunk. Not a bit tiddly, not mildly pissed, but absolute brain-fucked, shit-myself hammered.
I very, very rarely answer, but it’s always calling.
Depends. I do a lot of homebrew, and IMHO my stuff tastes pretty good. I also like mid to high priced whiskeys and alcohols. Some beer is quite nice, my favorite is Oberon.
For many, the taste of alcoholic drinks is not good. Until the world discovered aging, it was generally horrible. But aging in oak does tend to soften the spirit and when you include cocktails into the mix, there’s a whole new world in it.
No, but then yes. I am an alcoholic and it is an acquired taste. It became smooth, and I could pick out specific “notes” in the drinks over my lifetime of drinking.
Good alcohol tasting good is only because you have consumed enough of it to not have the initial aversion which goes away over time. The same thing happens if you eat a raw lemon continuously. It becomes tolerable and even nice once you do it enough.
There is no benefit to continually trying to enjoy the taste of alcohol. Although drinking is a social norm, alcohol consumption has no benefits to your body. The only perceived benefit (today) is strictly social, which will hopefully change over time. Just like smoking cigarettes, drinking is an old person’s game. I can only hope for a day where alcohol is seen for the cancer it is.
I’ve never tasted any alcohol that I actually enjoyed, but it’s a small sample size! I just thought I was weird because I’m also one of those people who think cilantro tastes like soap.
Yeah, until a certain point when it starts tasting shit and I know I drank enough and its my body’s way of preventing me to become an alcoholic. Just in case I get some pissed up people in comments saying cheap stuffs taste shit, I mostly drink good ones but I know some cheap ones are quite underrated too. And not trying to be an asshole, but I never quite understood the love for bourbon. I love single malts, and I like Irish, blended scotch, Japanse, and even little bit of rye. But I can’t understand Bourbon!
I’m a red wine drinker, but honestly, I doubt I would bother if it weren’t for the alcohol. Except for Sangria, but that’s mixed with a bunch of yummy things.
Everyone has different tastes some people really enjoy sleeping whiskey I think it tastes like liquid heartburn but I absolutely love a hard cider while some people think it tastes terrible. I guarantee there is a mixer or something that you would enjoy
I like the taste of most kinds of hard liquor, but rum and scotch are my faves. No ice, no mixer, just straight. Sucks because I don’t have a high tolerance, so I generally can’t drink it for very long.
Being drunk to me is a side-effect, not the goal. If I could magically make myself immune to alcohol, I probably would.
Lo gol? No. Good wine which happens to be alcoholic around 12-14%? Absolutely. Thing is, there, alcohol is a by product and it’s there by chance. With high-alcohol level drinks, it’s the intention
Comments
beer? sure. liquor, no idk if it does anymore but it used to make me retch. i used to refuse shots in bar lol
I tried couple of things. Vodka doesn’t botter me if it’s cold
enough, I like taste of cognac, I’m trying to learn to enjoy whisky but after half of the bottle I feel like I’m never going to like it without cola.
I like liquor in liquor. I hate the taste of alcohol in places it does not belong, like tiramisu.
It’s an acquired taste. Hated beer when I was 21 in college, but now? A nice cold beer in the summer is a vibe. I do have my preferences though.
Yes. Sake whiskey beer wine cocktails all delicious.
A lot of it is acquired taste. The dopamine released makes you eventually like it.
Beer? No. Cider? Yes
Nah
It starts off like many things, bad.
Down the line it’s lovely.
Same often applies to many things: soy, coffee, lemon, etc.
The finer things in life are worth acquiring a taste for. I agree with the Scots: “Aye laddie, there’s no such thing as a bad scotch.”
Yes. Especially red wine.
Alcohol itself? No. It doesn’t taste and the burn is pretty intense. I feel like anyone who has ever tried Everclear will agree with me on this one.
I like the taste of things that alcohol is part of. I like beer. I like whiskeys. I like a large number of cocktails.
I like the taste of wine (except for dessert wines)and I like the taste of most beer including sours.
I dislike pretty much all hard liquor even in mixed drinks. But Mocktails are great.
No thats what mixers are for
Yes, I really enjoy it all, mostly. There is such a wide range of products out there that all taste different which may surprise some. You really need to try a range of brands to see if you really may not like it. It’s perfectly OK for anyone who doesn’t like the taste of anything but sometimes I feel a lot of people don’t really give it a real chance.
Not beer
Alcohol is brutal: Everclear (190 proof) or moonshine are hard to take. But bourbon? I quit drinking 5 years ago and still dream about the taste of a well made Kentucky Bourbon. I never had to learn to like it. I loved my first shot of bourbon and I loved my last shot of bourbon and every shot I drank in the decades between. That may have something to do with why I stopped drinking.
Do you mean alcoholic beverages or just plain or like in the 80/90% rate? Because there’s a big difference.
People might call me a baby but I’ll take a flavored drink like apple Smirnoff or Mike’s over plain vodka or beer any day.
No I’ve always thought it was horrific
There are a couple kinds of rum or bourbon I genuinely enjoy sipping straight or on the rocks, but generally I do not like liquor for the taste. I do like the taste of wine and beer though.
Good alcohol tastes good. Cheap stuff tastes horrible
Beer yes 🍺
It’s bitter and yucky. But you learn to associate that taste with feeling good, so I think it can change your brain to like it
No…. fuck no. If there was a pill I could take that would get me drunk, I’d do that
I like some stuff. I’m not sure what qualifies as “heavy alcohol” but to make an assumption there’s a world of difference between cheap vodka and even a mid grade like stoli or tito’s. The latter is pleasant in a sour candy kind of way where you pull a face slightly but go back for more.

I’m sure some of it is the acquired taste thing, but that’s where I am with it these days.
Yes but I have a drinking problem so probably not the best one to ask. Over two years booze free.
Ice cold Budweiser on a 80 degree summer day with a UV index of 9 is the best drink ever.
I really like the flavor of whiskey. I have some bourbon barrel sugar I use in some recipes that has a whiskey flavor but no actual alcohol (I think)
Not really. But, I will drink certain Wines, Cocktails and an occasional Vodka neat. I can’t stand any kind of Beer and I have tried many kinds of Beers.
I ignore the bad taste and appreciate the other tastes. Like with diet coke, coffee, tea, sex, etc.
I like beer, whiskey and red wine, but I liked none of them when I first started drinking them.
It’s a bit like spicy food, Wasabi or fatty food, some tastes really do grow on you with consumption.
I didn’t when I was younger. But now it has good associations I like the taste.
I never have! I feel like I can always taste it. No matter what the cocktail is, if I can taste the alcohol, I don’t really enjoy it.
Yes, love it. Love beer and certain cocktails, and I like to make cocktails for people.
Not anymore. I’m not sure what changed. I just don’t like the taste anymore.
No. It’s weak enough in beer that I don’t mind it, and there are a couple of liquors that taste good enough to be worth it, but that’s in spite of the alcohol taste, not because of it.
Nope. I like the flavors they use to make that stuff drinkable.
I’ve never liked the taste of alcohol, like those extremely strong beers or drinks that arent diluted enough. But I’ve found that I do enjoy “the burn” with some smokey scotch whiskeys.
I still HATE vodka though and I could never drink it raw or with ice.
It’s supposed to be mixed with other things so that the alcohol taste is balanced with other tastes.
Yes. It can be an acquired taste but love it.
no. never did. only drank for what would happen while drinking. no great morning after story ever started with “so I was eating this bomb ass salad and you wont belive what happened next!!” nah its always “so I was drunk af with this chick right…”
THATS why I bore the horrible taste and hangovers.
Nobody gets laid with salad yall.
I don’t like the taste of salt, but I do like the spice of it.
Beer yes, hard alcohol no……so I guess the answer is “yes, but dosage-dependent”.
I hate things that taste bad. Many kinds of alcohol do, so I don’t drink them. I’ve never been able to wrap my head around the idea that something is an “acquired taste” Fuck that.
I do drink, certainly. Some light beers, ciders, wine and other light fruity drinks.
I like Scotch, Whiskey, Burbon, and Whisky as sippers.
My first ever alcohol was vodka. It was absolutely disgusting and i could not drink it without chase.
In college, i mostly stuck to vodka, but occasionally dabbled in other liquors. Same story, all of them disgusted me and I required a chaser.

I love me a good rum
Alcohol doesn’t have a taste of its own. I like the taste of many spirits (gin, rum, some whiskeys, bourbon, many liqueurs), many red wines, some white wines, and the occasional beer.
I LOVE Scotch, and drink it neat. So, yeah.
God no. Alcohol tastes horrible. Even the best made drinks still taste like alcohol (obviously.) So I’ve never been a big drinker.
No!
Straight? Idk that there’s any alcohol I know that tastes good. But mixed? Absolutely. I never got people who enjoy thier drinks ” on the rocks”.
Actually the dri k I used to like straight wad jaggerneister. But that was more in shot form
Whiskey is great, especially bourbon and rye and Jameson. High end tequilas that have a smokey flavor are also good. Vodka is only for mixers or to shoot. Gin is only good for dumping out. Rum is only good in coke.
No and yet I still drink it!
Rubbing alcohol is delicious!
Yeh there is Scotch that is delicious and so are cocktails and most things involving tequila.
Beer is refreshing but weirdly hard to comment on the flavour, cider tastes like juice…
I don’t like alcohol on its own but in beer, wine, and spirits it can be very tasty
Yes, yes I do
Yes. A cold crisp gin and tonic on a hot summer day, while sitting in a lawnchair barefoot in the grass is about the best feeling in existence
beer, yeah.
wine, no.
hard liquor, haven’t had enough to form an opinion.
alcohol now makes me feel like I want to crawl out of my skin, so I don’t. when I was younger it made me feel good but not anymore. wish I drank more beer, shit’s tasty.
I like the balance of alcohol and sweetness of fruit juice mixed in. Big fan of tequila sunrise
Kahlua tastes so good!
When I drank, yes
Not by itself, but there are some alcoholic drinks I do like.
Only absinthe/ gin tbh. The rest suck. Try equal parts absinthe/ gin and half part simple syrup. Chill it and take out the ice, then add new ice. Your welcome best martini you’ll ever have.
I love the vanilla smell some alcohols have
It’s possible to mix drinks in such a way that you don’t really taste the alcohol.
Alcohol, no. But the flavor extracted from a grest barrel, yes.
If it’s good, yes. If it’s bad, no.
It’s like asking ‘do you like the taste of meat?’
Yes.
No. And that’s why I smoke weed 😅
I like the taste of certain beers.
Not a single reference to tequila here? Was I given some sort of mock tequila shot at the Mexican restaurant? That was amazingly delicious.
I tend to like my liquor on the rocks. Other than that I enjoy beer.
Beyond that, the taste needs to be completely masked. Otherwise it just feels like a mix of disappointing juice and disappointing alcohol.
I have the same opinion of coffee. I like it black because most coffee drinks just taste like a disappointing coffee to me.
I think part of it might be genetic because my whole family is like this.
I like the way it hurts
Yes
I like the taste of tequila, some vodka, and some rums. Not a big fan of gin or brandy.
Depends on the drink. I like wine, I like most beers, I like a lot of mixed drinks, I don’t like any hard liquor straight.
God yes. I love the taste, the look, the ritual of preparation, the effects. Most of all, I like being drunk. Not a bit tiddly, not mildly pissed, but absolute brain-fucked, shit-myself hammered.
I very, very rarely answer, but it’s always calling.
Alcohol itself? No.
Good beer or red wine? Yes, it’s delicious.
Never been a fan of any spirits or white wine though.
No, I’ve never liked the taste of any alcohol – that’s why I don’t drink it.
Then I got married, and my partner grew up in a family that doesn’t drink for religious reasons. So it all kind of worked out for the best lol
I think of it like a smoke or a cup of coffee, a little harshness brings a little something.
Decaf coffee and alcohol free beer can taste good, but its lacking that edge.
You can pry my wine glass out of my cold dead hands.
Depends. I do a lot of homebrew, and IMHO my stuff tastes pretty good. I also like mid to high priced whiskeys and alcohols. Some beer is quite nice, my favorite is Oberon.
Straight Vodka is sweet and Macallan whisky is a delight
Nope! That’s why I don’t drink any.
Only some of them
No, ironically!
No. I never found it tasted good or at least tolerable.
It depends on the type. Vodka has a pretty neutral taste. Generally though I don’t mind spiced rum. I’m also partial to Danish Aquivt.
Alcohol tastes terrible. I say this as someone who drank heavily for decades
Yes
For many, the taste of alcoholic drinks is not good. Until the world discovered aging, it was generally horrible. But aging in oak does tend to soften the spirit and when you include cocktails into the mix, there’s a whole new world in it.
A good whisk(e)y is delicious.
But would i drink it if it were alcohol free? Honestly, I’m not sure.
Nope, don’t like the smell or taste of anything I’ve tried. I’ve tried a lot…….🤣
I love the taste of a good tequila, especially mixed well into a great margarita
Depending on the type
If it’s premium (good and quality items) it will def be good but cheap stuff (like the cans at Walmart) taste horrible
Heck yessss
Scotch and good dark rum, Clement vsop rhum
There’s just something about that burn and warmth. And it also depends on which spirit you like.
Sometimes.. sometimes, not so much.
Honestly no.

I can only hope for a day where alcohol is seen for the cancer it is.
I like the taste of good quality booze and the buzz is terrific.
No. I don’t like alcohol at all
I’ve never tasted any alcohol that I actually enjoyed, but it’s a small sample size!
I like the taste of drunk
Yes quality alcohol taste very good if you are buying Jose how can you expect to taste good
Yes I can taste the smokiness in good scotch and the smell is intoxicating as well no pun there !
Depends what kind. Cocktails, hell yeah! Bottom shelf liquor and awful IPAs absolutely not. Wine and beer also yes
Everyone has different tastes some people really enjoy sleeping whiskey I think it tastes like liquid heartburn but I absolutely love a hard cider while some people think it tastes terrible. I guarantee there is a mixer or something that you would enjoy

sometimes yeah
Oh my lord, yes.
Yes specifically ever clear
Not really, but there are some cidars and rosee wines that are deliciously tasting, also beer
Anything above 14% and it doesnt taste great USUALLY obvsly i am an average poor person, maybe the rich have better stuff that tastes better
Lo gol? No. Good wine which happens to be alcoholic around 12-14%? Absolutely. Thing is, there, alcohol is a by product and it’s there by chance. With high-alcohol level drinks, it’s the intention
