I can’t sleep for the life of me, so if anyone has any advice I’m all ears please :,)
But most importantly, my baby girl (rat) got put to sleep today after having a vaginal prolapse. She was pretty much fine yesterday as far as I’m aware and in the span of a few hours, I noticed she was very ill, took her to the vets, and she got put to sleep and I’ll be getting her ashes soon:(
I’m so so tired from crying and just tired because I want to sleep so bad but I just can’t. I have work in the morning and not only do I not feel up to it, I also don’t want to go to work with 3 hours of sleep. Just wanted to get this off my chest because I’m just so upset. But not crying. Just so frustrated and tired :/
P.S if anyone has any advice on how to fall asleep, I’m all ears! I do usually use ASMR but that isn’t working tonight.

Can you call out and take a break day? I know people will meme you for a rat, but its still a loved pet like a dog or a cat,
I had to put my dog to sleep six months ago. It’s gotten easier, but I still find myself upset about it. For a while it didn’t really click for me that she was gone, so I went about as usual, but eventually hit me pretty hard.
I can’t say exactly what would be the best thing, because it’s unique to you, but for me, I have a stuffed animal that looks like her that I cuddle. I have a small memorial in my room for her that I put together, and I kept a few things of hers to add to it. It takes time, for sure, but it’ll get easier.
As for sleep, melatonin if you have access to it helps on hard days. But if you want non medication advice, then just putting the phone down and laying down, asmr if you need it, get settled, and leave your phone away from you. Think of your girl, think of other things. But if you really can’t sleep, then don’t. Do some research for your own memorial, scroll through reddit, stay up if that’s easier for you.

Aw my love that’s so sad I’m so sorry! Rats are the best!
Not quite the same but my Ham passed not long ago. He was old and I knew it was coming. He was slowing down, getting a little wobbly, he was jumping at everything so I think he was going blind. I’d adjusted everything so he didn’t have to climb, changed his water constantly, because he kept kicking bedding in it, moved his food and water closer to him so he didn’t have to go as far, and removed his wheel completely to give him more room to walk around and dig because he didn’t have the strength to push his wheel any more.
I knew it was coming, but taking him to the vet was still heart wrenching. Little fuzzies are some of the most amazing pets you could ever hope to have. They can be so sweet and so full of character the way people whove never had one could never imagine. I took him to the vet and spent the entire day at work crying, and not one person judged me for it. (Well, one tried and was swiftly put in her place by 12 other people!)
I know it’s hard, but please believe me that you did the right thing. Your girl would have been in pain for much longer, and would have had an awful quality of life, she’s so lucky you paid attention and knew something was wrong, and although it hurts, I promise you, she is so grateful to you for making the pain stop.
So please, please let yourself cry and grieve and feel awful because thats what grief does, but also please accept that you did the best thing for her and that shows more love and compassion than anything else you’ve done for her x

I had to put my beloved pet Rat down years ago. One of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. She was very old for a rat, and kept ripping open her stitches from a surgery she had had months earlier for some reason. Came home to blood all over her fur. Apparently she had had a stroke at some point too so… it was just time…
I am so sorry for your loss! Just know your baby not suffering anymore, at least.
