How to quit when you’re not offering 2 week notice? Just a notice?

r/

Info:
– I just turned 20
– I work at a call center for fundraisers, I’m an engagement ambassador, and this is for the university I’m going to
– was looking for another job and got it
– my next shift is on Monday, today is Friday for me at 6:12 I’m typing this
-I want to quit real soon, for many other reasons. I won’t complain, but yea I’m sick of working this job.
-this is a part time job

I know there’s many other posts talking about how to quit your job. Im nervous though. I know I have to send an email, ngl the manager didn’t respond to my previous email though so Im not sure if she will see it. I will send her a message too. I don’t want to do it in person, I don’t have to right? I know it’s cowardly but yea.

I feel like it’ll be awkward to send a message becuase today I came in work when there was no work. And I messaged her saying my swipe access wasn’t working and if I could be let in, and she said please read the email. (I overlooked the email that said that there was no work due to it being giving day on Wednesday). Can I get some advice

My email that I will send –

Good afternoon (her name),
I’d like to put in my notice. I am resigning my position as engagement ambassador at (company). My last day is —-,2025. Thank you for this opportunity.

Find a template online for last day notice. Fill in your name and dates. Tell who you report to in person that you have appreciated the opportunity and you have learned a lot, but today / Monday / Tuesday will be your last day. Thank them for the opportunity and for any help they have given you.

Then send them the letter that you filled in the info on.

It’s nothing personal, just be professional. This bridge is probably burned without a 2 week notice but it’s not a big deal if you have another job lined up and you do not plan on returning.

I mean that email is fine?

Legally you don’t have to do anything; you can just walk and say nothing and there isn’t anything they can really do about it but complain. There are no legal consequences for not doing it, it’s just considered polite.

If you really want to get gone soon, simply say “effective immediately’ in that message. If they ask you to elaborate, decline. If they get threatening, simply walk out.

If you truly want to ghost them ASAP without actually “ghosting” them, write your resignation on a piece of paper, sign and date it, take a picture, and leave it in an envelope on your desk. That counts as a resignation and if they don’t take it seriously, that’s their problem, not yours.

I think it depends on the possible future relationship you want to have with your manager. If in the future you would like to use them as a reference it might be good to type up a resignation letter print it out and leave it on her desk or speak to her in person. I would suggest also write in a longer message talks about how you appreciate the opportunity to work for your alma mater and mention some of the skills that you feel like you learned from them. And you can also wish them all the best in the future.

Send the email for record keeping. If you got on with your manager, also give them a call to let them know. Be polite, be professional. The 2 week thing is a courtesy only, never a requirement. By calling along with the email you are extending that same type of courtesy.

Quit however you want. A guy I worked with quit by calling in and leaving a message saying that he won’t be in ever. It’s still funny.
