Do you the Trump’s second term is an extinction burst? Do you think we’ll have an FDR like president after him?

r/

An extinction burst is a last ditch, major push to stop a behavior or norm from being eliminated. Do you think this is a last ditch effort by billionaires to maintain the widening inequality gap? Also a last ditch effort by the Republican Party to stay legitimate by employing identity politics? (Since they’ve intentionally run on coded racist language since Nixon & they’ve opposed almost all popular Dem legislation while their policies have been largely unsuccessful & hurt the American ppl)

Also will we have an FDR who kinda “fixes” everything, I know he faced a lot of backlash but was still able to get a lot done I’m not sure if the partisanship we have today would allow that but if it gets really bad under Trump maybe?

Personally, i do not. I think our foreseeable future will be dominated by this kind of demagoguery.

    Nah.

I think the electorate is fundamentally changing.

I don’t think trumpism is going to leave us any time soon. I also don’t think we will see another FDR like President.

The latter is a good thing, IMO. And I really like FDR.

No, this is just beginning. The 2030s will bring a much worse breed of authoritarian

That depends entirely on Democrats. The status quo will not defeat Trumpism. Are we willing to kick the geriatrics to the curb, fire all of the failed campaign strategists, start listening to voters rather than donors, and realize that we’re no longer living in 1992, and update our media strategy accordingly? If so, the 2030s could be a new golden age. If the Chuck Schumers of the world choose to let the world burn because of their egos, we’ll be stuck with MAGA for many years to come.

I thought this during his first term, but his re-election has made me believe it’s much less likely.

A democrat will probably win next time, maybe get two terms, and then a republican will win, and the cycle will continue. americans are ridiculously short-sighted and uninformed and generally blame all their problems on the current administration and will willingly vote for something that is objectively worse simply because it is different.

Here’s the thing; the Democrats kind of already do “fix” things. Every single Republican president since Eisenhower has caused a recession, which generally the following Democrat administration has had to “fix.” Clinton, Obama, and Biden ALL recovered the economy massively after inheriting a Republican caused economic shit-show. (to be fair, COVID was a bigger factor in Trump’s recession, but he didn’t help)

But substantial improvement requires long term investments and cooperation. Faith/hope in Democrats getting things done seems to be decreasing, not the other way around. I think we’re going to see an increase in left of center people abstaining from the vote, which will contribute to Republicans always getting another shot at taking power and ruining everything again.

additionally, conservative propaganda is not losing any steam. Even if republicans leave office, they will simply dial up the rhetoric and get everyone mad again. The fight over things like immigration, LGBTQ and abortion will always be on standby if they need to get people riled up, these are not new issues and they will be here for a while.

Trump is possibly a last ditch effort by White Supremacist not Billionaires. You have to see the real problem in order to predict how things might play out in the future.

    No and no.

Our electorate is woefully ignorant. They think the President commands the economy. I think we’re going to keep doing this unsustainable swinging back and forth between a competent party and incompetent party. I’d love to be pleasantly surprised, but I ain’t holding my breath.

It’s why I’ve been advocating for pushing down the responsibility of healthcare and welfare down to states, and lowering federal taxes to allow for that; if Democrats lose the 2032 election. We can’t keep doing this swinging back and forth and putting hundreds of millions of people in constant limbo like this. If people don’t want to vote for a competent leadership, then fine, they can have fun dealing with their state government’s policies, without being cushioned by federal assistance.
