DAE dismiss a restaurant as an option if their only website is their Facebook page?

r/

I feel like it’s lazy and cheap and what else are they cutting corners on. I’ve never had Facebook and I never will and I’m also just tired of society trying to force it on everyone.

As a mom, I get it. With kids and fussy eaters at home, you need confidence in restaurants’ commitment to health. A pro website shows they mean business and care about your family’s well-being (and not just cutting corners).

Not everyone has a website or is tech savvy. Maybe they’re tired of everyone trying to force them to have a website. Facebook is so much easier to update than a website, especially if someone is doing it for you. I had a business, it’s expensive and a pain to update.

Oh man, I get where you’re coming from, but I can’t quite jump on this train with you. I actually find a Facebook page pretty handy. It might not be the fanciest looking thing, but it gets the job done. These days, a lot of small businesses, like hole-in-the-wall restaurants, use Facebook because it’s free and really easy to update. When I’m looking for a hidden food gem, I always check what photos they and their customers post on there. You can usually get a quick feel of the place from just a casual scroll. Plus, if there’s something new on the menu or a fun event, it’ll pop up in their feed quicker than updating a whole website. Also, it’s great for seeing how engaged they are with their customers. I’ve seen some hilarious interactions that just make me want to try their food even more. And hey, if you really like the food, I bet you’ll be willing to overlook it next time.

There are a lot of kickass family owned restaurants around me that only have a fb. They are definitely the places to go.

  6. Rudy_Nowhere Avatar

Nope. No more than I think people who can’t make their own meal are lazy.

  7. rexic0n Avatar

yes, i won’t even bother. i understand small businesses often don’t have money for more than the basics but if you can’t invest in yourself enough to put together a basic website with contact info and a menu, i’m not eating there.

I think my problem is when they ONLY have FB. I don’t have a FB account but I have Instagram. I don’t understand why some businesses don’t utilize multiple social media outlets if they don’t have their own dedicated website. They’d get a much wider audience and it would be easier to spread the word.

Imagine being this emotionally fragile lol.

    Fuck

This feels like a young person’s take on something they have never actually attempted. Getting a restaurant up and running, keeping it open six days a week, covering for employees, etc can be brutal.

  11. Jaymez82 Avatar

I’d rather they only have a Facebook page than a poorly designed website that makes me long for the Geocities days.

Replace restaurant with any company at all and then yes. Not always but often. Partly because I feel like they’re not fully established and partly because I have issues with Facebook that give me a sour taste when any company chooses to use them exclusively. As one of there places to share and advertise things, sure but the only one, I’ll find another place to shop.

  13. Yourlilemogirl Avatar

I don’t do FB so basically yeah

  14. OwlieSkywarn Avatar

Of course not. I typically try new restaurants based on recommendations from trusted sources, so it’s irrelevant to me what their web presence is. Furthermore, one of the most outstanding local independent restaurants in my area has only a facebook page. It appears that they’re so busy making incredible food and providing excellent service to their customers that they don’t take time or money away from those things to maintain an impressive web site.

  15. paulrudds Avatar

Can’t say I’ve ever looked at their website period. I typically just look up restaurants on Google maps and pick one.

  16. pc_principal_88 Avatar

Of course I don’t.. I go to a restaurant for the food and expect good service etc..Whether or not they have a http://www.such and such.com website instead of a facebook page doesn’t make any difference to me, as anything I need to know would be answered by a facebook page and/or simple google search (hours, location)

  17. Nice_Jaguar5621 Avatar

Websites are expensive. I trust a restaurant that invests more in its food and its workers than a professional website.

  18. bryslittlelady Avatar

I use Google maps and they usually have reviews and pictures, both of the places and the menu. Why would I need a restaurant to have a website?

  19. _rockalita_ Avatar

Do you ever travel to other countries? If it’s not a major city, you may never eat anywhere.

You think a soda in Costa Rica is going to have a website?

  20. Less_Party Avatar

I kind of just walk in and eat, couldn’t care less about what they may or may not be doing online.

  21. NettaFind66 Avatar

I don’t have fb either. Small businesses using it as free advertising doesn’t bother me. I think the issue is that it’s limited to just fb users. With the amount of build it your self web sites it would seem rational for small businesses to spread out and not miss out on the growing number of potential customers not of fb.

  22. Wheaton1800 Avatar

I like to see a website but it wouldn’t cancel the place out if it didn’t have one. They might be new on a tight budget. I would like to see their website though.

  23. OcatWarrior Avatar

Some of my old favorites had only a Facebook!

That being said, since I’ve permanently removed Facebook from my personal existence, if I were to come across any new ones, I guess I’d have to go old fashion! Walk to the place and check it out, if it means that much to me!

  24. Confident-Order-3385 Avatar

Long as they have good food and good service then 🤷‍♂️

  25. theslob Avatar

Only if their menu cannot be found within 10 seconds

  26. Buster1971 Avatar

If they don’t have a site where I can at least view the full menu, then I am not patronizing.

  27. ChefArtorias Avatar

Lol what? Why does a restaurant need a website at all? Plenty of local places don’t have one and are fantastic.

  28. Rex_Lee Avatar

Hell no. There are some great little Taquerias, pizza joints and of course food trucks with just a facebook page. It would be dumb to miss out on that tasty food for such a pointless reason

  29. Wildebeast1 Avatar

This seems like a you problem.

  30. tallestgiraffkin Avatar

Depends where you are I guess. I’m in Europe and it’s frustratingly common for restaurants to only have a presence on Facebook or IG. I don’t think you should dismiss a place just for that though.

  31. Fomenkologist Avatar

    No. I don’t eat online.

  32. kablam0 Avatar

It’s so obnoxiously annoying to be in business and keep a website up to date that hardly gets visited. Especially when that website has barely anything to do with that business. Between Google and Facebook that’s enough for the average business that doesn’t require a website like restaurants

  33. Ms_Teacher_90 Avatar

Yes because the restaurant Facebook pages normally don’t have the menu!

  34. sfdsquid Avatar

You’re missing out on most of the little mom and pop holes in the wall that serve amazing food at reasonable prices. Restaurants have razor thin margins. If someone in house doesn’t know how to make a webpage, little places won’t have one.
