I am deciding between Princeton and Oxford (Nuffield College) for a PhD in Politics. I am currently finishing a 2-year MPhil at Oxford and location-wise I’d very much like to stay in the UK. The goal is to get a postdoc/TT position at a top UK institution, such as UCL, LSE, or Oxford. Which programme should I choose and why?

Do you have potential advisors? Pick the program that you feel has the best advisor for you. You’ll do better and go further.
Also, I’ll add, if you did a masters and PhD at the same institution, chances are you will not get hired back there without years of experience at some other institution. It will be hard for your colleagues to not see you as a student.
When deciding for a PhD, the most important consideration is department (and as part of that, advisor), not necessarily the university. I’d recommend having a clear picture of who you want to work with and study under (for years, mind).
