It’s not pineapple itself, it’s the clash of texture with tomato sauce!
On a “white” pizza it’d be ok. But the moist, juicy pineapple paired with the moist, thicker tomato sauce ends up making the dough soggy AND creates a nauseating bittersweet combo, also unpleasantly slippery on th tongue.
White pizza with gorgonzola cheese, walnuts and pear/apple is delicious. Fruit on pizza can be fine, but you can’t just pick ANY fruit and slap it on ANY pizza.
(Pointing on the doll where the pineapple touched me.)
But seriously I think it just the only typical topping that is sweet. All the others are salty taste more or less. So maybe just a clash in taste between sweet and salty. It doesn’t bother me that much. Not my favorite topping but I wouldn’t pick them off if they were on a pizza.
Sweet and acidic- perfectly balances the salty hits of ham and bacon and cuts the fattyness of the cheese. It’s okay to not like it, hate it even. But the open vitriol is purely an internet cult brain rot thing.
For me, it’s a textural thing: I don’t like the texture of cooked pineapple. I can see how ham and pineapple on pizza would taste good, but I can’t stand the texture.
I never tried it don’t hate it but I still use it as an example when needing an example for controversial issues that won’t hit emotional and moral nerves.
I like it because I like a sweeter sauce. I also break my spaghetti in half because it’s less messy while having a longer beard. Sometimes it’s just about sticking it to the man.
I’m pretty convinced it’s a mildly unpopular thing at most and that everything else is people taking a meme far too seriously.
Pineapple on pizza is available all over the place. Obviously it’s not that bad. Obviously a lot of people eat it. I don’t eat it because I don’t like pineapple in any form, but who gives a shit?
I love pineapple, either raw or cooked. I eat at least 1 raw pineapple a day. Pineapple is what I live for. Long live pineapple. All the best to farmers growing that amazing fruit.
One of the big issues is that pineapple is a very wet topping. Most other pizza toppings are fairly dry. So even if you “pick off” the pineapple bits, the taste will remain. You have the same issue if you do half and half – the pineapple juice can leak over to the other side, which isn’t something you face with like onion or hamburger.
Sweet and salty don’t belong together. Pineapple doesn’t taste good even by itself. And why do you English speaking people don’t call it ananas like us normal people? It’s not pine nor apple.
I don’t think it’s really serious to anyone. I would rather guess this is something that many people have opinion, so people keep making jokes about it. Some herd animal thing.
It’s just one of those extremely millennial things to either say or bring up as a conversation topic, in the same vein as “zomg the word MOIST makes me uncomfortable”
At least for me, I don’t like pineapples at all, so I’m obviously not going to be happy to see them show up anywhere, but my guess is that they’re uniquely reviled among unwanted pizza toppings because they’re more difficult to pick off then say, mushrooms. They also leave much more residue behind when you pick them off. They haunt the pizza.
The only problem I’ve ever had with someone loving pineapple on pizza was a former boss. Had a pizza party for us. Ordered 6 pizzas. 2 cheese (primarily for people not eating meat), 4 Hawaiian. The entire group was pissed. And he kept insisting we all try it, not caring that I had it before and did not like it. I love pineapple. I don’t like it cooked. I like it cold.
I find pineapple disgusting altogether. So the idea of putting it on a savoury item like pizza sounds absolutely horrific. I don’t want a flood of sweetness and weird texture in my mouth when I’m enjoying the beautiful balance of tomatoes and cheese. Would you put pineapple on lasagna or bolognaise? Why stop at just pizza?
I’ve been a hater my whole life. It was weird and not a “normal” topping like pepperoni, but I had never even tried it. At 31 I finally did and I honestly loved it.
I like the flavor, it’s just the texture that feels too out of place compared to the other toppings. I would destroy a ham pizza with pineapple juice added on top.
Tastes weird. Sweet on salty that doesn’t mix specifically. Also, I remember when my family got pineapple pizza then I thought the pineapple was bits of cheese as a kid then yuck.
Short answer: It’s a meme, that’s all. Some people just don’t realise it.
Long answer: Humans are social creatures, we’ve evolved to agree with our in-group. Group think was literally a matter of life and death not that long ago, and we still have our cave dwelling ancestors brains.
Joining in on an opinion gives us a dopamine reward, leading us to agree with things like “pineapple on pizza bad”, even if we don’t actually feel that way. Most people opposing Hawaiian pizza don’t actually have anything against it, it’s just how we’re wired.
We’re all susceptible to it, even if you think you’re being vigilant, and think before typing something, it will still slip one past you more often than you think.
I just don’t like pineapple period because of its texture. Otherwise I probably would like it on pizza. I certainly don’t diss other people for liking it!
They don’t, it’s a small vocal group of purists who scream every time. How many pizzas with pineapple do you think are sold every day? Estimated at about 20% of people like pineapple on pizza, 1 in 5.
It’s a sweet and savory pizza. People do it for the memes or because they just never tried it. It’s great. At my house for Thanksgiving we had a whole ham with pineapple slices on it. It’s great alone, add a pizza and it’s better.
I grew up in NYC. I’ve tasted pizza that has Caesar’s dressing as the marinara. I’ve tried bbq sauce as the main sauce with bacon and chicken. They were all great. It’s pizza man.
As an Italian American who was a fourth generation Philadelphian and now lives in Texas I think this is like how Texans feel about beans in chili. We are pizza every Friday without fail and I was legit taught there were acceptable and unacceptable toppings. It was like a regional thing. I’m also against cheese in seafood pasta dishes because I was taught that too. On the beans in chili thing I wasn’t taught that young so I don’t care.
I know objectively people have different tastes and pineapple on pizza is a valid choice as is beans in chili but it still feels “wrong” to me and I cringe inside when my Texas kids do it.
If it were super thin, then caramelized more thoroughly in the oven, driving off most of the moisture, it would be better. I hate or for a similar reason that I hate fresh tomatoes on pizza: The water content overwhelms and makes it soggy. And it can be cloyingly sweet. Let it caramelize and it might work.
I just don’t like the flavor of cooked pineapple. I love raw pineapple and will compress it with various flavorings for fun, but once it gets warm bleh. It being on pizza doesn’t make it any better. I also don’t like most other cooked sweet fruit, other than apples and bananas (if bananas are fruit). Tastes like sweet tar. But I don’t give a crap if other people like it. Just don’t order pizza for a group and only get Hawaiian.
For me it’s because when the pizza is baked, the pineapple juice gets all over everything and then the entire pizza just tastes like pineapple. This means you can’t “split” a pizza by toppings, because if half is pineapple then the whole pizza ends up tasting like pineapple.
I barely like pineapple. I enjoy it as a flavor. I had a drink in Disney once inside a pineapple. But on pizza? It’s always paired with the inferior pizza meat, ham.
And by small amounts I mean very small, thin chunks
Pineapple does in fact accentuate and enhance the flavour of the meat
The problem is that pineapple is a VERY strong flavour
So you don’t even need to put that much of it on a lizza for it to be too much and completely overpower and ruin the pizza
Or, they do understand but can’t be bothered to slice the lineapple into smaller chunks
And unfortunately, most pizza places don’t understand that and they slap way too much pineapple abd way too large chunks on the pizza, ruining it.
Its like grabbing the ketchup (or any condiment) and just pouring the ENTIRE bottle on the pizza and then going “bleh! Ketchup is bad on pizza!”
Yeah, no, the ketchup isn’t the problem here.
Ppineapple on pizza gets undeserved hate but I think a lot of it comes from a justified place because most people never had actually good pizza with pineapple, of course they’d think its bad.
If you don’t believe me then order pizza with pineapple, take tge lineapple out, cut it into tiny chunks, sprinkle it reservedly back on the pizza and the difference will be like night and day.
What I want to know is, would the people who hate pineapple on pizza eat ham with pineapple? I mean a baked/roasted ham, not the deli meat. Baked ham with pineapple and brown sugar is a classic recipe.
At this point I think it’s just a meme or something for people who like to complain to complain about.
I’m an authentic Italian and I could care less about what people put on their pizzas. I don’t like pineapples personally. But we put weirder shit on our pizzas than pineapple.
It’s the same sheep bs as saying clowns are scary and moist is a gross word. It’s people not thinking for themselves regurgitating internet bullshit. Just try it and decide, don’t make it part of your personality.
Because the internet thinks it’s funny to hate pineapple on pizza and think that people who like it are somehow defective. Lots and lots of people like pineapple on pizza, otherwise Hawaiian pizza wouldn’t be on literally every pizza menu.
Comments
They secretly love it but want to look cool.
I’m curious about this too. Pineapple, chicken, green peppers. Maybe throw some hot sauce on there. It’s amazing
I like pineapple and pineapple juice. Have tried it on pizza but don’t do it regularly. It works best if you use barbecue sauce instead of pizza sauce
Fruit should only be eaten by itself…. Except maybe peanut butter and apple slices.. I’ll let that go.
I love it, never understood the hate. Now, the Canadian bacon on it, that doesn’t make sense to me
(Pointing on the doll where the pineapple touched me.)
But seriously I think it just the only typical topping that is sweet. All the others are salty taste more or less. So maybe just a clash in taste between sweet and salty. It doesn’t bother me that much. Not my favorite topping but I wouldn’t pick them off if they were on a pizza.
I don’t. I love it. Why is it still offered everywhere? Because more people love it.
Sweet and acidic- perfectly balances the salty hits of ham and bacon and cuts the fattyness of the cheese. It’s okay to not like it, hate it even. But the open vitriol is purely an internet cult brain rot thing.
I don’t like sweet with savory. And it’s not the right texture (don’t much care for veg in general on pizza bc of texture)
The texture and taste just don’t combine well imo. Anytime I’ve tried it, it just feels slimy and gross.
It’s not even “why do people hate pineapple on pizza so much?” it’s “why do people hate people who like pineapple on pizza so much?”
Like in WHAT way does other people’s choice of pizza topping affect you in any way shape or form?
I just hate pineapples, also ham. So neither should ever touch a pizza lol
!remindme 24 hours
I just don’t like pineapple, so I don’t want it on my pizza.
I ate it when I was younger and threw up for a week. Never touched it sense.
Its nasty
For me, it’s a textural thing: I don’t like the texture of cooked pineapple. I can see how ham and pineapple on pizza would taste good, but I can’t stand the texture.
I never tried it don’t hate it but I still use it as an example when needing an example for controversial issues that won’t hit emotional and moral nerves.
Because Reddit and Reddit is just has a lot of wrong opinions on things.
Mostly because I just don’t really love pineapple in general except for in cocktail form
I like it because I like a sweeter sauce. I also break my spaghetti in half because it’s less messy while having a longer beard. Sometimes it’s just about sticking it to the man.
Just think it tastes bad. That’s it, that’s the answer.
Maybe they think being picky is cool.
I love pineapple, either raw or cooked. I eat at least 1 raw pineapple a day. Pineapple is what I live for. Long live pineapple. All the best to farmers growing that amazing fruit.
Some people just can’t admit they like it. It’s the Nickelback of pizza.
Personally I don’t like the sweetness on my savory, but hey to each their own!
Ts good as hell people can’t form their own opinions sometimes and is easy to jump on a train
I don’t like pineapple, so pineapple on pizza is a no brainer.
Italians say it’s a food crime
The fact they sell pineapple on pizza is proof lots of people like it.
I’d pick anchovies as the most hated available option. Gag!
Here’s the thing. most people have only had Canned Pineapple on pizza. Which is fucking awful.
Now, Fresh Pineapple on pizza? that’s a new level of amazeballs.
This explains the split.
They’re weak. Hawaiian pizza is fantastic.
It’s just one of those extremely millennial things to either say or bring up as a conversation topic, in the same vein as “zomg the word MOIST makes me uncomfortable”

Cuz their stupid

I’m allergic to pineapple so I’ve never tried it
I’ve been a hater my whole life. It was weird and not a “normal” topping like pepperoni, but I had never even tried it. At 31 I finally did and I honestly loved it.
I like the flavor, it’s just the texture that feels too out of place compared to the other toppings. I would destroy a ham pizza with pineapple juice added on top.
Because sometime people pretend to get angry about inconsequential things for fun.
Tastes weird. Sweet on salty that doesn’t mix specifically. Also, I remember when my family got pineapple pizza then I thought the pineapple was bits of cheese as a kid then yuck.
It’s delicious. Sweet and savory is a thing in many cultures, from Persia to India to the Arabian Peninsula, and also in Southeast Asia.
Short answer: It’s a meme, that’s all. Some people just don’t realise it.
Long answer: Humans are social creatures, we’ve evolved to agree with our in-group. Group think was literally a matter of life and death not that long ago, and we still have our cave dwelling ancestors brains.

We
Probably because they don’t have an adventurous pallet.
I really dont like sweet and salty things either. It confuses my brain too much.
I just don’t like pineapple period because of its texture. Otherwise I probably would like it on pizza. I certainly don’t diss other people for liking it!
They don’t, it’s a small vocal group of purists who scream every time. How many pizzas with pineapple do you think are sold every day? Estimated at about 20% of people like pineapple on pizza, 1 in 5.

anyone else notice that the people who like pineapple on pizza don’t give a shit if you don’t?
but the people who don’t like pineapple on pizza will curse your whole bloodline?
Pineapple? Peaches, pears, bananas and apples are all fkin great on pizza.
It tastes bad and I’m always right so you’re wrong so you’re bad obviously duh 🙄

It makes it soggy and then you just have soggy, sweet pizza which the whole purpose of eating was to have a salty meal. Idk man I hate it
If it were super thin, then caramelized more thoroughly in the oven, driving off most of the moisture, it would be better. HOW DID YOU KNOW I just had pineapple on my pizza for dinner?🍍🤯
It’s a meme to hate on it, so people hate on it. Some actually don’t like it, but that’s true of any pizza topping.
I barely like pineapple. I enjoy it as a flavor. I had a drink in Disney once inside a pineapple. But on pizza? It’s always paired with the inferior pizza meat, ham.
Because they probably only had it on a Hawaiian pizza and the Canadian bacon makes that pizza terrible. Pepperoni pineapple is my favorite pizza
Because pineapple on pizza DOES work
BUT
only in very small amounts
And by small amounts I mean very small, thin chunks
Pineapple does in fact accentuate and enhance the flavour of the meat

Most hate it because it’s popular to hate it. The 1% hate it because they genuinely don’t like it
I don’t mind it. Just don’t like hot pineapple. 😖
I dunno. It’s great.
What I want to know is, would the people who hate pineapple on pizza eat ham with pineapple? I mean a baked/roasted ham, not the deli meat. Baked ham with pineapple and brown sugar is a classic recipe.
Hot pineapple is gross. Cold pineapple is delightful.
Find better friends?
At this point I think it’s just a meme or something for people who like to complain to complain about.
I’m an authentic Italian and I could care less about what people put on their pizzas. I don’t like pineapples personally. But we put weirder shit on our pizzas than pineapple.
Because pineapple is disgusting.
Because it taste FUCKING DISGUSTING.
‘cuz they’re imbicilic morons who would put ketchup on scrambled eggs.
Same reason every one hates nickleback
Some people don’t like sweet and savory together.
I do!
I don’t like pineapple
It just seems weird to most people. All the power to ya if that’s what you into but it’s not for everyone
It’s the same sheep bs as saying clowns are scary and moist is a gross word. It’s people not thinking for themselves regurgitating internet bullshit. Just try it and decide, don’t make it part of your personality.
tuna pepperoni pineapple
because it is always paired with fake bacon and sweet’n’sour sauce. nasty af. pineapple with chicken and normal bacon is good.
Because the internet thinks it’s funny to hate pineapple on pizza and think that people who like it are somehow defective. Lots and lots of people like pineapple on pizza, otherwise Hawaiian pizza wouldn’t be on literally every pizza menu.
Because it’s gross. That’s why.
Because they never tried it, but weirdly enough prosciutto and melon or figgs is ok.
I actually like it tbh.
This thread is hilarious, because I my country (Sweden) we have pizza with both pineapple and banana on top, together with curry powder and peanuts.
It makes the pizza way too soggy, I don’t like how it tastes with the rest of the pizza, and I don’t like how it hurts to eat
