My special interest is cats. I am also an artist. Therefore, i really only know how to draw cats because warrior cats was my main drawing inspiration as a child. I keep being called a furry for this, but iirc a furry is someone who likes anthropomorphic animals. Why do i have to be a furry to enjoy drawing cats ??

If you’re autistic and draw things that alone will probably cause people to infer you’re a furry, before you even get to the cats. And there’s a lot more prominent furry stuff online than there is regular cat art. You know it’s not true about yourself, so try to just take it in good humor.
Furry isn’t really drawing just animals. It’s drawing anthropomorphic animals
what does drawing animals have anything to do with being a furry? I thought being a “furry” was a kink, dressing, fantasizing, and role-playing as an animal.
it says more about them.
The hell?
If people are fetishizing as well as overly sexualizing anthropomorphized cats and dogs, it speaks to them – not you.
It’s not like Zootopia or Bojack horseman are inherently “furry”.
You’re only a furry if they are anthropomorphic in my eyes. Unless of course someone is actually off the rails and likes feral furry stuff
If you’re being called furry for drawing an normal animal then ask them up what furry is and how did they know about it. Maybe they are the furry, just embarrassed to admitted themselves.
However if you’re drawing animals standing in 2 legs for too often and often seemed unnecessary horny, then it is possible that you’re furry. And that’s okay too.
It’s only furry if you want to bang the cat or bang as the cat.
You don’t want don’t want bang cats, correct?
Honestly, I’ve always considered ‘Furry art’ to be “Here’s an overly sexualized drawing of an anthropomorphic animal” and not just “They like to draw animals a lot”.
Unfortunately, I feel if you’re online and like art, you’re bound to be exposed to some form of furry art that you didn’t ask for.
Drawing anthropomorphic animals isn’t even inherently ‘furry’ (Either that, or Walt Disney and his team need to be resurrected and asked some VERY pointed questions).
Is it people you know IRL who are calling you a furry? I guess it doesn’t matter; brands of ignorance are all over the place. I’m only asking because some very young people (especially early-mid teenagers) just say stupid shit because they think it’s clever or are purposefully trying to be hurtful. VS older teens and adults who may genuinely be curious and open to an explanation.
Either way, you know you aren’t a furry, so screw anyone who makes you feel like you have to justify your art.
Do you have something against being labeled a furry?
I think it is up to each person to decide for themsleves if they furries or not.
I also think “furry” is associated with certain style/aesthetic, like bright color fur, humanlike body proportions, etc. on animal character.
I don’t automatically consider drawing characters like Bugs Bunny to be furry, even if there are those who do it.
There’s nothing wrong with being a furry, per se.
do you know how to draw a taygaloo cat?
You don’t have to be a furry to like drawing animals. Are the cats you draw stylized or something (like cartoon or anime-like)? That wouldn’t change my answer, but I know people assume furry whenever anyone draws any kind of animal that’s not strictly a “realistic” style.
Hell, you could even be drawing anthropomorphic cats, and you wouldn’t necessarily be a furry. You’re only a furry if you say/consider yourself one imo. And if you did consider yourself one, there’s nothing wrong with that either. Whether or not you’re a furry is 100% your decision, and your decision alone.
(And I say this as a furry myself).
I always considered it a distinctive style. It’s kind of like an artist drawing feet the more detailed they try to make it the more sus it is
Admittedly there is a decent amount of overlap between ‘people into warrior cats’ and ‘people in the furry fandom’ since it is an appreciate for anthropomorphic animals. Same with like most big wolf rp’er types or lion king fans end up labeled as furry. It’s very much a jumping off point into the community
But that doesn’t make you a furry. To the layman a furry is just someone who is a fan of anthropomorphic animals (the drawing, costuming, etc is what makes up the fandom, but isn’t necessary to “be a furry”). But really it’s just a label that’s self assigned to people who want to be apart of that community and fandom. If you don’t interact with the furry fandom or say you aren’t a furry, then you aren’t one.
