[Star Trek] Sonic Screwdriver on Assignment: Earth

r/

I am watching Assignment: Earth on Pluto tonight. I never made the connection before, but Gary Seven has an advanced version of a sonic screwdriver. His can immobilize people and hypnotize them, though. I am wondering if the writer took this idea from Doctor Who.

Pretty unlikely considering the first appearance of the sonic screwdriver in Doctor Who was at most a week or two before Assignment: Earth aired.
