People who drive full size trucks should always back into parking spaces

r/

Most people who drive full size trucks have no idea how to park straight between the lines. Doing so is much more difficult because of the turning point.

It makes more sense to back into the spot. It’s easier to get the vehicle straight (or at least entirely between the lines, and it’s easier to pull out of a parking spot than to back out with a truck.

This of course only applies to straight spots and not the slanted parking spots… people who can’t/ don’t part properly in those spots are assholes.

    It’s really not that deep

You believe that people who can’t pull into a parking space forward can do it in reverse?

As someone who drives a crewcab truck, I couldn’t agree more with this. It’s especially safer to pull forward out into traffic as opposed to attempting to back out once it’s time to leave.

This is only unpopular with people that don’t drive full size trucks.

It’s easier, safe and more efficient

As someone who drives a midsize truck, I agree with this. I will back into a space more often than not. But it really depends on how wide the parking lot aisles are.

And if you can’t back it in, you lose the truck

  9. tech_equip Avatar

I agree. Can you believe there are some municipalities that ban backing into a space?!

~80% of all parking lot accidents are because of the car backing out of a space not being able to see traffic coming from either direction
Knowing this means it should be far more common to back in. Interestingly your opinion doesn’t mention safety at all but an inability to park straight. We agree that cars (at least trucks) should back in. Downvote. We disagree on why, in fact your specific position is actually ridiculous. So upvote I guess.

I agree. Except in the case that backing in blocks a sidewalk.

No — just learn how to park properly. It’s not thst hard.

I just feel full sized trucks should park in the back of the parking lot then it would matter how they park because they will have plenty of room to park however they want. Just my thoughts on it 🤷🏼.

I park in the back and use two spaces

Only if they aren’t back up to a sidewalk. Then people can’t get by, especially someone who is in a wheelchair or similar.

I drive a big truck and 10 times out of 10 if I’m not lined up in my parking space properly it is due to the arrangement of other vehicles in adjacent spaces when I got there. Smaller vehicles on an angle or taking up room in my space (or too close to the line).

Unless they are backing over a sidewalk

But it’s easier to load the bed with it facing the roadway.

I have an even more unpopular opinion. Trucks that can’t fully fit in a parking space head-first should not be street legal. Either that or the US needs to take about $500 trillion and redo every road and parking lot in the country to accommodate them. I am more understanding if you have a job that requires a big truck but if you have one just because you think it’s cool, please learn how to drive it. I have never before seen someone with a big truck drive normally. They either drive over curbs, make u-turns on a concrete median, ignore stop signs, cut people off, etc.

To your point, it is much safer for these big trucks to back in but the only issue is a lot of times they overhang and block sidewalks which makes it hard for people in wheelchairs to safely get into whatever place they’re at.
