If he had shutdown the government, Musk and Trump would have been empowered to do as they pleased when it came to lay offs. People hate him because they hold a fairy tale that it is his fault that the present admin is doing what they promised they would do if elected.
Less effective than Nancy Pelosi was in her respective role.

He was never good. I just don’t know who could take his place.
I think he was a good majority leader, but his hesitance and missteps over the CR were a really bad look and he fucked over the Dems. I don’t enough to say whether he was made the right or wrong move but the hatred he’s gotten really makes it hard for me to say that he should continue to stay Minority leader. I do think I’d much prefer him over AOC in his Senate seat.
Schumer was a good Senator, but he doesn’t have what it takes to be the man for the moment.
He keeps pretending like the rules are still the same, and they’re just not.
Schumer is a great example of that meme about Dems complaining about dogs playing basketball.
It’s clear that congressional leadership in the Trump era only really knows how to fundraise. The party has no ideological leader and hasn’t for a while. We are in opposition to a set of ideas, but hold none of our own and the past few months has made that more clear than it’s ever been.
He should retire and let someone who cares take over.
I think he is pretty feckless and out of touch. Even if his "betrayal" was strategic – his overall influence and asset to democrats seems to amount to not very much.
Not a Democrat, not a liberal, but my personal opinion of C. Schumer is, he’s a perfect example of why the political process in America is a total joke. Unfortunately for us there’s no real alternative to the Democratic Party, no strong leadership in the so-called "Independent" movement and no one on the far left is really equipped to organize a solid opposition against the GoP or Major Assholes Gone Asinine. So far all I hear from the Left is a lot of pissing and moaning and daydreaming about the 2028 election cycle.

I don’t like his spinelessness, but to be completely honest I despise anyone who would consider his nuanced position on Israel to mean that he’s too "pro-Israel".

The face of everything wrong with the old guard of the Democratic Party. Not a fighter, all about appeasement, he’s really only there because of voter inertia.
When Hakeem Jeffries is more of a fighter than you are, that’s fucking sad.
He’s experienced, and really cares for the USA and the people here.
Sadly, he’s also out of touch with his base. Liberals want someone to stand up and punch back, not crouch down and weather the storm for 4 years as the country gets torn apart. He’s playing duck and cover, and should be playing duck hunt. Fucking needs to realize that trying to minimize the damage will allow the damage to continue.
USAID just fired everyone, Musk is going to wreck the codebase of SSA, and the price of eggs is still high. How is that any different than just shutting it down when it’s already getting shut down?
I think he made a mistake with the shutdown, although I believe he did it for what he thought were the right reasons. He’s really terrible at communicating, especially with young voters. Honestly, I hope he makes a lot of money with his new book because I think it’s time for him to retire.

He’s been in congress for almost 45 years, which means he keeps getting re-elected. He must be doing something right.

I don’t agree with everything he’s done, but then again I don’t know what he knows, so I have to respect his decisions. I think it’s a waste of energy to attack Schumer because he’s "so old he still uses a flip fone" and not focus on the real enemy right now – Trump and congressional republicans. We can protest and we can vote. Tearing down Schumer isn’t helpful right now.
