I am a middle-aged single mother, with a 25+ year career in a field that is currently targeted (think DEI). It is reasonable to assume that I might lose my job in the next few months, and I am trying to figure out what to do. There are few other opportunities in my career in this political climate. I have transferable skills and could pivot to another field, but it would mean a 25-35% pay cut. I’m not sure I could weather that much of a pay cut and still be able to pay my mortgage. Selling and renting would not be an option, as my mortgage is about $400 cheaper than the going rental rates. I live frugally, but I am struggling to make ends meet, even at my current income. How can I stay off “entitlement programs” and keep my house and feed my kids? What is the right thing for me to do, from a conservative view?

This isn’t really a question for this sub but I see you are being honest. To be honest myself, I don’t think there is an answer to your problems that is specifically "Conservative" now. Living conservative would have been what you look to to avoid getting into this situation in the first place.
>in a field that is currently targeted
You recognize that the job and field is, in your opinion, targeted. You also recognize that the skills and experience you gained in that job and field is not.
You also already know the solution is pivoting.
You can either be mad and poor, homeless, etc. Or you can be mad and gainfully employed again.

You know who’s jobs aren’t at risk right now? Plumbers, electricians, welders, general contractors, etc. Which are some of the highest paying jobs available. Unless you are in C Suite.

This isn’t really a question that belongs here. Maybe the finance subs or whatever your job field is would have better answers.
There isn’t enough information to make any kind of tailored advice.
