Maybe stop asking questions with so many words and then we’ll start answering them

If the post gets popular enough, you actually do get responses from conservatives. You just have to sort by Controversial and they’ll be right there at the top.

    Usually it goes like…

OP: “conservatives, why do you think this?”

Liberal commenter: “they think this because…”

u/Oldmanwaffle, how have you not realized that posing questions on Reddit doesn’t generate any legitimate answers?

Answer: Those questions are likely being posted by bots controlled by Russian bot farms.

The purpose is to get everyone up in arms over nothing. Whoever is posting those ridiculous threads aren’t real. However, the programmers/bot operator gets paid for engagement. So, if you engage with the posts, you are helping them.

Yes, we are aware. It’s because conservatives are cowards with untenable positions.

Or asking legitimate questions on r/conservative gets you banned.

The other direction is pretty common on other social media; a lot of “Dear liberals” kind of stuff. Reddit just skews away from conservatism, barring a few deeply toxic and self-isolated subreddits. Decent amount of overlap between the motives for these kinds of posts from both conservatives and liberals / progressives: attention seeking, expressing anger, etc.

In terms of distinguishing characteristics, I think the conservative version can often be sort of mantric: repeating and reiterating talking points within the community to strengthen one’s belief. Conservatism involves believing a lot of untrue things, and mantric repetition helps internalize it and bypass doubt. The conservative version never seems to actually even want liberals to see it, it’s purely for internal consumption.

On the flip side, I think people on the left sometimes fool themselves into thinking they can actually convince a conservative of something, as a kind of coping mechanism for how they feel about the world right now. If only you could reach out to conservatives in just the right way… but it functionally never works. It’s only possible to convince someone who’s willing to be convinced.

    Isn’t it weird why?

Ha. I’ve pointed this out many times.

If a question begins, “Conservatives of Reddit…,” 95 percent of the answers will begin, “I’m not a conservative, but…”

where am i supposed to go, r/conservative? lol

Two reasons really. First, Reddit is EXTREMELY left biased outside of a few certain subs so trying to answer questions as a Conservative in good faith just gets you ruthlessly downvoted and attacked. They’re like sharks, the second they smell blood in the water (IE you’re a Conservative who isn’t toeing the leftist party line) you’re dogpiled and trying to have an honest conversation is impossible. Most rational people just give up at that point or don’t even engage in the first place.

Second point, due to its relative anonymity social media like Reddit tends to bring out the extremes in people. They say things on here without a second thought that they’d never say irl. Just as the majority of leftists you come across on here aren’t representative of leftists as a whole (most people don’t applaud the torching of someone’s Tesla for instance but if you just go by Reddit responses it’s the norm), the vast majority of Conservatives aren’t either but they’re the ones you’re engaging with. Probably why you’re getting answers that seem odd.
