Dentist appointments are relaxing

r/

You go down there, lay yourself down in the comfiest chair imaginable. Nothing to do, nothing to worry about while someone maintains your mouthstones.
They ask if you been flossing, you say like a 2018 Fortnite kid, they tell you to floss even more and that’s it, you’re on your merry way.
Just like a haircut a dentist checkup is a pretty chill experience.

Idk. As much as I like my dentist and his staff, the hygienist digging and scraping in my mouth is not a relaxing experience. I DO like the feeling of a clean set of chompers, though.

Done root canal filling a week ago. It’s not a good experience, brother

I em neglected to go to the dentist for a year because I didn’t have insurance. I went to a dentistry school because it was cheaper than a normal dentist. The dentist they set me up with was a really nice girl but oh lord it felt like I was being tortured for three hours straight as my gums were being prodded by various metal instruments. When it was finally over I was trembling with a mouth full of blood. Then I was told I would need another appointment and yes I endured another 3 hours of grueling pain to my gums. She was very grateful because it helped her studies. I just hope she has a steadier hand in the future.

It’s fine now with anesthesia… But I still have vivid flashbacks from my childhood and dentist visits with no anesthesia. I had root canals, I had that weird thing when they removed part of overgrown gum with some electrodes (no anesthesia, I was about 11-12). So it still a bit hard to relax, but way easier now

Speak for yourself, I feel very exposed going to the dentist.

Listen, I may brush and floss twice a day, but I like my sweets. And I know for a fact that my dentist can tell, and I feel like they’re judging me for it.

A dental-related fear of mine is my dentist yelling at me for eating sweets.

lol you freak. Your life is so rough that the tie at the dentist is a treat. Constantly hustling and suffering haha.

1 The chairs are fine, but I wouldn’t call them amazing

2 The scraping sounds aren’t pleasant, at best it’s tolerable for a short period of time

3 I do love being DONE at the dentist tho

Appointment and checkup are different 🤡

Having an appointment for a teeth cleaning vs getting teeth pulled are very different experiences.

    What a stupid post

They stick bits of metal in my gums, op

    They scrape at my teeth

They choke me half to death and not in the fun way

And then they ask me to give them a load of money for it

    This is not relaxing

Totally with you—going to the dentist is weirdly relaxing. I’ve been fortunate in the tooth department, so it’s usually just a cleaning, a couple x-rays, and a “keep doing whatever you’re doing” from the dentist. Plus, it’s one of the few socially acceptable situations where you’re not expected to make small talk—because, you know, hands in your mouth. I just lay back, zone out, and let someone else do all the work while I get praised for flossing. It’s basically a spa day with less cucumber water and more suction tubes.

    I love this sub.

    You have 2 options:

    1. Take really good thing and make it sound really awful to justify your opinion in a fallacious way – shout out to “Ketchup is just tomato vomit” guy

    2. You take something that can be really bad, completley ignore everyone else’s experience and declare it’s good purely because you’ve reduced it to a single pleasurable experience.

OP, of course dental appointments are relaxing on the premise you sit in a comfy chair and get pampered. Most people aren’t going to dental appointments for that reason, outside of check ups. They’re having extractions and injections and anaesthetic and surgery… how helpful is your comfy chair then?

Only issue I have with the dentist is they ask you questions when they have their hands in your mouth. You can’t really speak.

-Dentist “Oh did you see how we are supposed to get a big storm tomorrow?”

-Me *makes sounds that sounds like an empty coffee after drinking iced coffee.

I find the beginning of the appointment kind of relaxing. The checking your teeth with the mirror. Everything else that happens after that…absolutely not relaxing to me

    I can relax too…

If they shut up and let me. Instead here’s two devices and one hand in your mouth.

Now, tell me, how’s work been?

You’re right op. Dental appointments are relaxing. Especially when I get to take my prescription Xanax for my anxiety of dentists.
