City cop or county sheriff

r/

I’m currently in the background process at both Alameda County Sheriff’s Office and San Leandro PD in California.
As of right now San Leandro still allows officers to chase, while sheriff’s office only for violent felonies.
Both agencies have similar schedules, and I’ve been on a ride along with each agency and the deputies seemed more personable than the officers I met.
I believe the city department will finish their background investigation first, and if everything goes well, I expect receiving a job offer from them as a sergeant I spoke to seem very eager to hire me. Originally i slightly favored the sheriffs office due to the potential further room for growth and opportunities. However I do not want to turn down the PD in hopes of getting an offer elsewhere and get turned down from the county.

Does anyone have any recommendations or comments on this situation?

At the end of the day, you want to work where you’ll be happiest. It’s really up to you if it’s worth taking the risk to turn the city down to wait on the county if the county is where you really want to be.
