Friend’s dad pointed a gun at me tonight and I almost shot him. To start here, I’m 19, live in Oklahoma. I am an avid gun enthusiast, I have paid for multiple training classes and even shot a USPSA match. I try my hardest to be a responsible and classy gun owner. I have a friend (21) who lives with his parents on private land. Me and my friend go out and shoot on this land often and his father has given me express permission to shoot on this land. My two friends that I haven’t seen in a while were in town and they wanted to go shooting so I invited them to aforementioned land. I called my friend about an hour and 30 minutes before to confirm that I was allowed to come out and shoot. He said it was fine. His parents said it was fine. Well, about an hour into shooting we see headlights coming down the pasture and it’s his dad Now, my friend was at the house where his dad just came from so it was just me and my two friends who his dad has never met. And not to mention, I’m wearing full battle rattle, chest rig, OWB holster/belt, slung rifle, bump helmet, the whole 9 yards. Anyways, his dad comes down and storms out of the truck with a pistol in his hand, screaming about who are you and why are you down here, Even though he called me by name when he got out of the truck before he even saw who we were. He was screaming at us for names and the serial numbers for our guns. I tried my best to be respectful and I said “I understand, sir“ to everything he was saying. Then he started saying he called the sheriff and wanted all of our guns in his truck. I told him the guns were not going in his truck, but they could go on my tailgate until the police got there. He then screamed “I have a fucking handgun“ and pointed it at me, and It feels weird to say this, but when he pointed at me, there was a split second where I kinda thought in my brain to draw and fire, and I almost prepared myself to, but in that split second I decided not to, and I put my hands up and far away from my holster and tried even harder to defuse the situation. After like 3 minutes of back and forth he told us to get our shit and get out and never come back. On the way back to my house, I called my friend and told him what his dad did and he said he caught the tail end of it as we were leaving and his dad got back to the house. My friend apologized and was super confused and frustrated about that fact his dad would do that. And About an hour ago he called me again and said his dad wants to apologize and that it was a huge “misunderstanding”
If I had presented my pistol and fired when he pointed the gun at me would that have been justified? My common sense tells me no, since it was his land, and he would have been “defending it”
We were shooting in a safe direction with a sufficient backstop. If I left out any info I will provide it.

Dad is a lunatic. It would have been justified. He pointed a gun at you, you couldn’t have known if it was loaded or not. You got an ok from his son to be there. The dad was tripping
Doesn’t matter what actually happened, good luck in court explaining that you shot a man on his own property while wearing combat gear and wielding a rifle
LEO here in Oklahoma. I think it would have been justified. Pointing a firearm of any kind, or what appears to be a firearm, real or not, joking or not, loaded or not, is a crime. If you, the person the alleged firearm was pointed at, believed it to be a firearm then it is a crime. Just from your side of the story, I’d say you’d be justified. Absolutely terrible situation to be in and a shameful act of gun handling on your friend’s dad’s part. Good discipline on your part. I’m not the one who had all the answers off the top of my head, but if you have questions feel free to ask. I personally wouldn’t go there anymore after that incident.
Are you legally allowed to possess a handgun in your state under age 21?
