Unsure if this is fit for confession but I’m posting it here, please lmk if I should change to a diff sub.
I’m in uni and I come from a different country but grew up mostly in the USA. My close group of friends from my childhood and teen years are all white. When I went to college I met friends and some were American and some were international. I studied abroad and made a few international friends too.
That being said, I think I’m feeling like my international friends are my best friends. There’s something about us all being mindset similar and speaking multiple languages as well as our sense of humor and way to have fun that make me feel more enjoyable with them compared to my American friends. Not to say I don’t like them, I do and I enjoy seeing them because it’s only 1 or 2 times a year due to distance and school but there’s something by different about being a part of international friend group.
Also, after studying abroad I don’t speak with a single American kid from my group even tho we’re all at the same uni. I speak with (some) international friends weekly if not daily thru sharing memes, texts or snaps. I don’t know if that means something but I feel closer to them sometimes. Even the intl friends I don’t speak with often, they’re still easy to talk with
