The older I get, the more I realize that people who try to portray themselves as smart are often the dumbest or most narcissistic. I don’t know who’s actually smart anymore
Nobody’s smart, even the smartest people lack common sense. We know next to nothing about the world we live in and the people that act like they do are typically dumb. We’re all dumb. But that’s ok
‘People’ are dumb. That doesn’t mean a specific person is dumb. That means as a whole, everyone is stupid. However, every person has that specific thing they are good at. No matter what it might be. That is the subject they are ‘smart’ in. But being ‘smart’ is relative. A person can lack common sense and still be smart. They might know how to accurately put a rocket on the moon mathematically. But they might also not know how to change a tire or check their oil. Is that person smart or dumb? That depends on perspective.
Is it fair to say that you are stupid because you can’t do the job that I do? No not at all.
The older I get, the more I realize how much I don’t know. As a teenager, I thought I knew everything. As a young man, I realized I didn’t know as much as I thought I did, and as an older man, I realized that it’s okay to say, “I don’t know.” I’m always wanting to learn more, though.
because “looking smart” is a performance
and the best performers are usually just loud, confident, and full of shit
real intelligence?
asks more than it answers
admits when it’s wrong
doesn’t need to win every convo
knows the difference between being clever and being wise
problem is, we reward the exact opposite—certainty over curiosity, slick takes over substance
so now everyone’s just parroting podcasts and LinkedIn threads like gospel
want to spot someone actually smart?
watch how they listen

Well I’m dumber than a box of river rocks, and duller than a rubber knife, so you can cross off one person from the list at least.
