What’s with people quitting masturbation?

r/

I don’t understand why it’s so encouraged.

I understand it’s correlation with porn, and the damages of porn itself. But why not work towards quitting porn + developing healthier masturbation behaviours, rather than completely quitting masturbation?
Masturbation is normal and healthy, physically and mentally. It can relieve stress, improve sleep, release hormones, ease menstrual cramps, prevent prostate cancer, boost mood, etc. Wouldn’t quitting it bring other problems, such increased sexual frustration?

I just don’t get it. Why would someone quit masturbation specifically (not porn)?

Despite what many people are stuck thinking, quitting maturation can be really healthy. It gives you a new perspective on sex and partners. Also it’s a sort of mental challenge, like a test of strength.

It’s a weird trend called semen retention that has ties to New Age spirituality. There’s no scientifically known benefit but that hasn’t ever stopped anyone from practicing New Age stuff.

Personally i prefer to only have sex with my partner, When I masturbare i feel dumber because of the hormone cocktail release its like a drug

I get it it can get healthy but how often? I prefer to have sex and save my sexual power for my encounters

Because some people do it too much. I’ve done it toouch as well as porn and smut. I’m willing to fully quit porn and smut, while masturbating no more than twice a week. Ideally once every two weeks.

It’s not really that satisfying. Afterwards, I regret it because if I just waited another hour or two, my wife would be home and give me some sloppy and it would feel way better.

I say jerk away all you want. I don’t care what anybody says, i do it when i want to and no one can tell me otherwise. Quick and easy way to get on with it and once the thoughts are gone i can focus on work better.

I’d put even odds on a famous influencer that just wanted to fuck with people, a religious nut that purchased influencer content time, or just current zeitgeist shift from so many people being incels due to social isolation trends that have turned into “you can’t fire me, I quit!”

    tldr:

ppl on the internet (derogatory) tell them it has various negative side effects (they’re wrong).

I feel like its because of the association of masturbation with porn. The inability to masturbate without the simulation from porn or nudes etc.

It amazes me when people start doing trendy stuff. Masturbation is healthy in all respects. It does not harm you in any way. You do not burn in hell if you masturbate. It keeps the prostate healthy. It relieves stress.

You cannot retain semen. It breaks down and is reabsorbed in the body if you do not “use” it.

Porn is a different matter if overused or you have a hard time differentiating between porn actor sex and real people sex.

Enjoy life. Masturbate often. Feel good about your clit and penis. Explore your sexuality. Find out what feels good to you and share it with your partner. Masturbation is intimate and fun when shared.

I’m 63, male and married for 35 years. I masturbate daily on my own and mutually with the wife sometimes.

Never trust a quitter. They just haven’t got what it takes.

Because the world is rapidly turning religious and conservative and men are trying to quit some of their toxic addictions, which for many people masturbation is. They’re not your casual wankers, they’re porn-addicted coomers that have probably hit rock bottom and now have to stop cold turkey, because it’s either that or full blown addiction.

Religious BS and guilt tripping. Masturbation is natural and healthy. American Pie actually has a great part about this when Jim is talking to his dad. He relates masturbation to practicing tennis by hitting the ball against a wall. It’s fun, and it’s good practice, but it’s not the game (actual sex).

Basically, it’s fine, but don’t let it take the place of the real thing.

Where are you seeing this trend? I get the feeling it’s not as widespread as you might think

I dont know, it just doesn’t feel as good anymore 🙁

Most people do it too much. Porn or not.

  24. LuinAelin Avatar

It depends if it’s becoming an issue for that individual or not

If it’s not a problem for you in your life, you don’t need to quit

  25. dombruhhh Avatar

because it encourages you to also watch porn which imo is very harmful. Masturbating and all that is fine but it’s the porn that makes it a lot worse

Don’t overthink it, if it helps you (and it is helpful as you listed) just do it. Don’t listen to those who try to convince you otherwise. It would only be harmful if it really affects your real life (for example when you are late at work or school or whatever because of fapping).

If that’s not the case, just do it. Your body, your choice.

It’s just sexual neurosis and Abrahamic bodily shame finding new life in communities of chronically online sexless men desperately looking for an explanation for why they aren’t getting laid (that doesn’t require them to actually work on becoming a better person).

Every single anti-masturbation post I’ve seen on the internet is from some red-pill adjacent gamer dude.

Porn is largely unethical IMO but even the staunchest anti-porn radfems typically don’t think the solution is abstaining from masturbation…
