Knowing that many dishes we eat in the USA are american versions of Chinese dishes or not ” authentic” I always wondered what Chinese immigrants at Chinese restaurants said to people in China about where they work . Do they say they work at a Chinese restaurant, an american restaurant, a restaurant ” where they serve American versions of our food” , something else? For example Mexican immigrants working at Taco Bell would probably refer to their workplace as “Tex-mex, fast food or american versions of Mexican food ” before they would call it Mexican food.
