They’re Interested. It’s pointed out. They became distant. Why?

r/

Throughout elementary & middle school, I’d be getting along really well with a boy my age or a bit older. Mutual interest; meaningless kid crushes.

Interestingly, if they didn’t end naturally, another person (always a girl from what I can remember, sometimes more than one) would point out how well we got along and probably insinuated one or both of us were into each other.

Cue the friendship ending. The boy would essentially start to act like I didn’t exist. I’ll probably delete the post once I feel like I’ve got my answer. Thanks.

this is just my experience, but for me this would usually happen because boys tend to get pretty embarrassed if people perceive them as “loving”, “soft”, or “romantic”. it’s just our roots of toxic masculinity in our society ig.

another possible reason is that you may not be seen as conventionally attractive. i’m by no means insinuating you’re not attractive this is just my experience!!! i was kind of weird and an “ugly duckling” throughout elementary/middle school. guys would take interest in me because i was smart and nice, but if anyone noticed they would pretend i didn’t exist bc they didn’t want to be seen with the “weird, ugly girl”. during covid i had my glow up and it was freshman year when we came back to school and i was treated VERY differently. at first it was nice for guys to parade me around like some trophy but then i quickly realized that it wasn’t genuine. ugh life sucks sometimes.
