I mean no, you can do what you want. But you’re a fool for thinking that. I don’t listen to any podcasts like that. My top three are Budpod (2 comedians who are friends just talking aboit things), The Adam Buxton Podcast (Adam interviewing guests, some of them are very casual, some are a bit more structures, and Off Menu (w comedians asking guests what their dream meal would be. It sounds shit on paper but there’s so much room for comedy there).
What podcasts are you thinking of that are just ads or editorials?
Not everyone prefers to process information aurally.
I can enjoy a prepared, scripted podcast cast now and then. But free form rambling conversations without a designated interviewer asking prepared questions are not my thing. It just feels like aimless rambling, and a waste of my time. If I wanted to listen to that sort of thing, I would do so with friends and be able to participate.
As will all forms of content, your mileage may vary.
There are a few I listen to that I really like and have listened to for literal decades. From NPR, Cartalk and Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me are fun listens. Cartalk is an old, pseudo-call-in radio show; the podcasts are simply recordings of it. Wait Wait still airs, it’s a panel quiz show. I think both are funny. My children are required to agree with me.
I listen to a few actual-play ttrpg podcasts. Some I stopped listening to, they were just people goofing off with a microphone. Some I’ve listened to for years.
Quite a few I’ve listened to one or two and gave up. As you indicate, it’s just off-the-cuff ramblings.
The downside of podcasting is that it’s stupidly easy to start one. Any audio recording device, minor editing, and hosting it. Of course, that means that any moron can make one and I think the very existence of social media suggests that “any moron” really does mean “any moron”.
I can’t imagine feeling so desperate for aural stimulation as to consume content from “influencers”. I don’t watch Facebook live, I deeply resent the entire existence of TikTok, and I have yet to find anything worthwhile through instantgram. So…I don’t listen to those podcasts.
They are fun when you are into the topic. I listen to true crime podcasts like Serial, Crime Junkie. It’s interesting to hear about people’s stories and their ability do such heinous things. I also listen to political podcasters who are libertarian and give information that is not filtered through corporate media. You just have to find what interests you and if nothing does then that’s fine too!
“Oh, that’s because you haven’t found one that you like yet. I would suggest that you check out. …. “
I have heard that phrase so many times. I’m on the road for work and spend between three and five hours in a car every single day. I don’t stream music, I don’t listen to podcasts, I just think, Count cows, and listen to whatever is on local radio stations.
Its not odd to me. I’m really not the type of person that wants to listen to someone yap for HOURS. Its insane to me lol. When I’m watching something, its gotta be more than just a conversation I guess.
I think the point however is its all preference. You shouldn’t feel “odd” just because podcasts are trendy. You should be confident in the things you like and dislike.

I’m with you. I just don’t care to listen to people talk. I’ll forever want music.
Why would it be odd to listen to podcasts?
Why would it be odd to not listen to podcasts?
I enjoyed them until I discovered audiobooks

Why would you need to have a desire for podcasts? Oddly specific
My uncle Ron downloaded a few podcasts from some shady websites and eventually got hearing aids.
No but it’s odd that you ask the question if you don’t care at all about the subject

The only one I watch is Tosh Show. Mostly satire, it’s hilarious.
No, it’s a personal choice. Not everyone enjoys them.
