In Brazil, people exchange large chocolate Easter eggs, like this one: Brazilian Easter egg
All the famous chocolate brands like Nestlé, Hershey and Kinder, make those big eggs in Brazil, and the supermarkets get full of them hanging from the ceiling, like this: Easter eggs hanging
Do these brands make these giant chocolate eggs in the US too or is it specific to Brazil?
Do American supermarkets get full of these eggs hanging above your head?
Do you give one of these giant chocolate eggs to someone?
Comments
we don’t exchange them but children are commonly given chocolate eggs for easter
I’ve never seen a giant chocolate egg, but chocolate bunnies are pretty common.
Parents will usually give kids a basket of chocolate goodies, supposedly left by the “Easter bunny,” with eggs and rabbits often being a theme. I haven’t seen a chocolate egg as big as the one in that photo, but smaller chocolate eggs are definitely a thing.
A lot of people will take all sorts of candy to work or social functions on the day of/after. Kids are more likely to get chocolates like you described in their Easter basket, and parents will often peel the decorated chicken eggs kids hunt for, and either eat them as hard boiled eggs or deviled eggs.
Small chocolate eggs (from Robin egg to chicken egg size) are normal, the “big” chocolate is usually a bunny.
No, I’ve only seen them in Italy
I married a man who was born in Italy and during our marriage we did the giant chocolate egg thing (with a surprise inside) because Italians do it too. The eggs we got were imported from Italy and we got them at a store in Brooklyn, NY.
Our giant chocolate form of choice is a rabbit. I don’t recall seeing giant eggs, but that’s a common shape for regular sized chocolate.
I don’t think Brazil is unique in this. I’ve seen people from the UK ask about it.
No, but now I think that we should!
Adults dont gift them to each other but parenrs do to children. Ones that large are usually only found at a pastry or chocolatier shop. Not at the local megamart
I’ve lived in both countries, and no those giant egg things in Brazil are not given out in America.
In the US, we mostly give small baskets of assorted candies to children, or hide eggs around our house or lawns, usually it plastic hallow eggs field with candie.
we did in mexico, but never in the us
Giant eggs aren’t that common. Children usually get Easter baskets with a variety of treats and small toys in them.
You can certainly find (moderately) large chocolate eggs in any place you normally buy candy, but the big eggs aren’t really the focus so you’ll seldom see more than maybe half a dozen in any store. We do have quite a variety of Easter themed candies, some just repackaging of stuff available year round, some only sold this time of year. Kids get baskets with a variety of candy, often a big egg and/or chocolate rabbit (I think the rabbits are a bit more popular). Reeses Eggs are popular, as are Cadbury mini and creme eggs, jelly beans, Peeps (colored marshmallows, shaped like rabbits and eggs for Easter). We tend to go for variety over a single gigantic egg.
When I was young, a kid spent the entire Monday after Easter sucked on a huge solid chocolate rabbit.
He was a had a chocolate rash by the end of the schoolday.
