Is it Masochism or am I just self stimulating?

r/

Giving some warnings because this post will get into personal stuff like SH, injury and all sorts of stuff.

But I’m autistic, one of the things I do is pick at things, for example dried paint or scabs, but ontop of that I have a lot of mental problems which I won’t get into for obvious reasons.

I used to SH a lot(I havent checked the ‘I am Sober’ app in awhile, but I’ve been clean for over a year now) , I still pick at my injuries alot when they clot, and just in general despite the guilt I obviously feel because I’m falling into bad habits again and bad coping mechanisms I get this sense of satisfaction when I do it, its hard to explain, but I know its not in a sexual sense.

So like.. I’m confused on what it is, is it just aside from my SH just an autistic thing because I like picking at things and poking and prodding at my injuries or is it just.. masochism?

It’s totally normal to pick on your own scabs or injuries as long as you don’t rip your wounds completely open again.

I’ve been told it goes with my ADD ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Only you can answer that tbh. Is it turning you on when you pick scabs? Do you get horny when you feel pain and cut? Do you like how blood runs from your wounds and imagine cumming simultaneously? Does the thought of SH turn you on, or do you feel like hurting yourself whenever you feel aroused by other things? Remember, masochism is often SEXUAL.

I have dermotillomania, also called Body Focussed Repetitive Behaviour (BFRB), and I pick at my arms, legs and face.

You have a case of being human. If picking scabs turned you on, you would notice.

Just wanted to say I relate to you a lot, I always pick on my wounds and tear them open and pick on skin. I’m also autistic. I did all this because I liked the sensory aspect of it. So if you ever feel lonely or isolated just remember that there are people who experience similar thing

I think this still falls under self stimulation, it’s just a more harmful variety. I am autistic and also have the habit of picking at my skin and biting my nails… sometimes I get wounds but I can’t stop!

From what I understand, if this has no sexual meaning to you, and you feel compelled to do it even when it’s not convenient, it doesn’t really fit masochism.
