How does one cry oneself to sleep?

r/

I really need to just get to sleep. I tried crying because I thought it would give a kind of release, but it doesn’t seem to have done the trick. Still awake. Does it have to be a really hard cry? Is there a particular technique to it? What if there is someone sleeping next to you that you don’t want to wake up?

I’m sure it’s anyone’s first question, so to answer: it’s just everything. The politics. My dead bedroom. Having to leave my job without a clear prospect. Just getting older and having to deal with some health stuff.

Is it even possible to cry yourself to sleep? Maybe it’s just an expression? I’m so tired and I have to get up soon..

I find if I’m that messed up – I need to get up and eat a little protein, and stretch. Helps alot to stay well hydrated. Try some of those podcasts that are meant to bore you to sleep. It wont replace worries but it may distract you.

Crying oneself to sleep – isn’t that from Dr. Spock for child rearing. Doesnt work anyway.

Get a prescription for Trazedone. It’s not habit forming and it works really well.

The crying doesn’t help you sleep, rather the sleeping helps you stop crying. It’s not the best system, but it does have a nice solid ending, unlike midday cries.

I’ve worked night shift for 26 years. Sleeping at night does not come naturally to me. When the room is dark and quiet, and I’m not physically exhausted enough to sleep, my brain goes all over the place, and it’s hard to shut it down. What works for me is contracting and relaxing each muscle group a couple of times and “thinking small”. I try to not to think about my place in the universe, but like just my feet in the sand on beach with gentle waves washing up them. Or booze. Large amounts of booze also helps.

I’m confused on how one can just “try crying”
