Between 45-50. God, I was a complete mess. I just got fed up and decided it was time to take care of me. I am so glad I did. Getting old isn’t for wimps. Edit: 215 isn’t that bad.
Probably around 45-50. In my early 40s gained a lot of weight due to some health issues. Finally recognized the destructive consequences and decided to change. Ended up changing diet, exercising more, lost 60 lbs and feel better. Kept it off.
In my mid sixties.Put on a little weight, was not as active as I used to be.
Some of my responsibilities changed, though, and my activity level increased dramatically. I joined a group fitness challenge. I lost about 15% of my body weight, started lifting again, feel good now and hope for a few more good years.
Age 30. Lived in Daytona Beach in my 20’s and weighed in around 235. Moved to nowhere Oklahoma when I turned 30. Now I’m not active and don’t drink the water here. Put on 50lbs. Oilfield traffic isnt friendly to cyclist. Neither is the 30 mile drive to work.
Age 40-65. I still worked out, but I carried a lot more weight because of bad habits, commuting, not enough time or energy to cook right.
Do it now because the older you get the more droopy skin will remain behind when you actually do lose the weight. I dropped 45-50 pouns around age 65 and while I’m pretty trim and strong, I got folds.
Early 60’s. An LHC determined a 50% blockage. Nothing’s done until it reaches 70%. At 70%, you get stents. Kidney function declines with age too — perfectly normal for it to go down. Mine’s at 38% of normal. That equates to Stage 3 Kidney disease. It’s all manageable though.
Had been gaining weight over time, up to 255. high bp. high coll. migraines. back surgery to stop nerve damage. However at this point, dropped 35 lbs. BP down, col down, walking a few miles a day. Now 66.
At 33, my dad died and then my company laid off 80% of our department. This was the first RIF I had ever experienced and it was after months of long hours devoting myself to our company and department, but 9/11 took a heavy toll on everyone. Anyway – that’s when the ideations of suicide began.
14 years and endless therapists and psychologists and medications later, I still wasn’t improving and was completely burned out – unable to work. Then, at 54, I finally got correct diagnoses so I finally was able to start getting correct treatments.
I have had weight fluxuations my entire life. That was easy compared to feeling like I wanted to drive off the Tacoma Narrows for decades.
Well. I’ve always been very healthy, never been sick in my life…then a month ago I discovered a lump in my breast. Seems I have Breast Cancer and it has even spread. So I’d say right now I am not at my healthiest. I’m 58yrs.
Early 20s. You should be healthy at that time but I was poor and I ate junk food and was sick every year. now I’m 69 and I eat organic lots of vegetables and fiber etc and I haven’t been sick in 14 years.
On Friday. Had emergency gall bladder surgery with severe complications from sepsis. I honestly thought dying would’ve been sweet relief from the pain I was in. Thank God for fast acting and totally free healthcare in Canada. After 2 dozen tests, x-rays, CT scan and emergency surgery with 8 surgeons and nurses in the OR, and multiple days in a large private room and being sent home with all my meds my total bill is zero. Nada. Nothing. No one even mentioned money. God bless Canada – I love this country more every day.
Early 50s up til I was a little over 53. I’d gotten overweight and out of shape. Blood pressure and cholesterol were bad. Now 14 months later I’m down over 60 lbs and I ran a 10k yesterday whereas 14 months a mile a was a struggle. Off cholesterol meds and my BP is back to normal. I do owe most of it to compounded tirzepatide (generic of Zephound) but it also helps that I am exercising much more now as it no longer feels like one step forward and three steps back given I was never not hungry before.
At 40 yrs. I had started a new business in addition to the one I already had. And for whatever reason, my stress levels started to eat away at my intestines. I developed full-blown Crohn’s. Bad symptoms, I thought I was dying. I had lost about 30 pounds and I only weighed about 140 anyway. Not good.
Through a series of tests, we also figured out that I was totally lactose intolerant. Been drinking milk and eating ice cream and cheese and all the other lovely diary things since birth. But nope, can’t do that any longer. And no hard liquor either. So I cut out a ton of various things that are bad for Crohn’s patients: Liquor, dairy, red meat, pork, fried food, pizza (I cheat on this one), and super-high-fiber foods. And things immediately improved. I started taking probiotics as well. More improvement. And then we found out that my blood pressure was off the charts, like they wanted to call an ambulance that day (I said no). So I had to cut out coffee and start taking blood pressure meds. Yay, more improvement!
These days the 65 yr old retired me does yoga and meditation, has a very strict diet, gets lots of exercise, in better shape than I was at 40. And have learned to manage stress (even in these times!) and my gut is in much better shape simply by changing my diet. My bp is way down too.
So you can change your life, you just have to take some small steps in that direction until you are in a full-on run. You only get one of these bodies, ya know.
Late teens, all 20’s. LOTS of cocaine and alcohol.
Stopped those in 1989.
Luckily everything is in check right now. Excellent blood work, no medications, heart fine, all fine.
Had a kidney stone a year ago though… I would rather have had another child un- medicated than do that again… but yeah all good!
30-37. Terrible diet, drank excessively. Met a guy that was a marathon runner and trained with him for a 10k that I won in my age group. Stayed a runner into my sixties.
About 3 months ago. At age 55, I was at my heaviest (272). I was having nightly leg cramps, feeling lethargic and experiencing inflammation of my joints. Talked to my doctor about trying Ozempic; it changed everything!! I’m down to 242 (looking to lose about 50 more pounds). No more cramps, joint pain, etc. I feel better than I have in years. You can feel better ❤️🩹
My last year of college. I didn’t eat well, sleep well, and never did much exercise. I tipped the scales around 225 at my heaviest. I got it down under 200 for most of my late 20s. Kind of shot back up to about 215 for a few years in my late 30s. About 6 years ago I had enough and got myself down to 180. I haven’t gone back up past 200 since, and right now I’m about 192 trying to level back under 190 to about 187.
10-11 years ago (so I was 52 or so) I was living in Europe, drinking a lot of alcohol, and eating a lot of there always seems to be alcohol and good food everywhere. I got up to about 180 pounds.
After moving back 8 years ago, I went down to my current 148.
Now.
I’ve always been healthy. Normal blood pressure, low cholesterol, I still weigh what I did in college.
But- I have to kinds of cancer. No one would know from looking at me or seeing all the things I do (walk 5 miles a day, work out in the gym, play pickleball, do strenuous hikes). But one of the cancers I have is incurable. It’s being managed now with a daily medication, for three and a half years now.
Tomorrow I go in for my quarterly scan, hopefully I’ll get good news and it hasn’t progressed. But could go either way. A lot of anxiety tonight!
61F here. I was 28 years old at the time traveling around the world solo. I had kidney infection and hepatitis at the same time and ended up in a Bangkok hospital. I lost 14 pounds.

Mid-thirties.
My boss was a maniac so I was stressed to pieces all the time.
After I quit, I got better.
Middle school. Came home everyday and ate a bowl of cereal for lunch everyday follow by Totinos Pizza Rolls and some Ben and Jerry’s for dessert.
Now……..am 70 and feel so bad

Mid 40’s? I’m 48 now and a bad marriage really put my health in a bad way. I’m just starting to come out of it and improve
55F and right now. The meno weight gain has hit me hard and I’m having a very hard time bouncing back.

My 60s. Morbidly obese, bad food choices, lots and lots of stress. Now in my 70s: lost about 200 pounds, retired, so a lot less stress.

About 28.
I was a young adult, living out of home and looking after myself..not very well.
My idea of healthy eating was to change what restaurant I went to each night. Kfc, mcdonalds, pizza hut, Chinese…then back to KFC.
I had also stopped drinking water and only drank coffee or soda or milk or fruit juice.
Went to a doctor because my fingernails started growing weird and the doc told me I had malnutrition.
Made some changes after that. Started home cooking and actually drinking water!
