ELI5: UK VATS when shipping from the US

r/

I guessed on the Flair because Economics seemed the best fit but it isn’t exactly—? Anyway, here is my situation and why I need some help:

I have been helping friends with proxying items in from Overseas because they don’t understand the process. For everyone’s security and peace of mind, I had them pay on PayPal under Goods & Services instead of Friends & Family. I have only one person who is located in England and I’m wondering how best to ship to them.

I am not an official business: I just provided a service for friends. Would the fact that G&S was the payment method matter for shipping? Could I just ship it to them under the classification of a Gift? Or, because a service was provided, is there something I need to do with VAT fees or need to prepare them for?

(For item reference: it’s four acrylic keycharms. Not even .5 ounces, and not worth even $20.)

The last time I shipped to the UK the rules were different, so I’m learning for the future. Please ELI5 because everywhere else is not making sense for this situation.
