My dad calls my mom gorda all the time (and she is not fat at all) and it is meant as something cute.
I know its weird, but we are talking about the same country where a mom can call her child ‚papi‘ and her husband ‚mijo‘ (short form of mi hijo)… and everyone calls everyone marica except to the actual maricas (I‘m writing this as a marica myself lol)
gordo (1): affectionate way to refer someone who doesn’t knows his name. usually used by womens to refers any men (maybe a firend, boyfriend, or used by sellers to empatize with mens).
Example: “gordo, no tengo esa referencia de jeans pero tengo esta que tambien te orma bien” translate/ “Fatty, I don’t have that style of jeans, but I have this one that might fit you really well.”
synonyms: mor, amor, cariño.
gordo (2): An affectionate way of referring to someone who is overweight, whose main characteristic is their fatness. It’s not an insult. It’s usually used by close friends or family members. DO NOT USE IT IF YOU DON’T KNOW THEM.
EXAMPLE: Gordo, ¿qué es lo que hay? ¿Mañana firme para unos micros?
Translation: “Fatty, how are you? Are you ready for the futsal game tomorrow?”

An endearing term to someone you’re close with like a friend or family member.
Es como si dijeran “mi amor’ o “cariño” .
Es como “Hombre!”
Its a term of endearment… for whatever reason.
