I’m a 44-year-old woman living in Tokyo, Japan.
I’m legally recognized as mentally disabled and receive national disability support.
Despite this, I was forced to live in a dangerously built, illegal apartment.
I submitted reports to the Japanese government. I contacted major media outlets.
No one responded.
I was treated as if I didn’t exist. The system ignored me—just because I’m a disabled, single mother.
I’m sharing this not for sympathy or donations, but because I believe people outside Japan should know how disabled citizens can be treated.
If anyone is interested, I can share more details.

share more details about your condition.
Sometimes having a different perspective helps. You have a roof over your head and you are not homeless. You are a mother despite being mentally disabled. Maybe you are more blessed than you think.
OP, what does it mean that you “were forced?” Who forced you?
It gets even worse of you find yourself homeless there. Really sucks in general how societies treat people that have slipped through the cracks.
Are you a citizen, tho? You call yourself a “woman living in Japan”, which implies you are not Japanese and naturalized citizenship is difficult to obtain. Living there doesn’t make you a citizen. If you’re not a citizen, that’s probably why you’re not getting services from the government. If you hold foreign citizenship, contact your embassy to see what help they might be able to offer. If your child is Japanese and you’re not, they could be due services that you are not. Perhaps if you applied for them to receive assistance, it might change the answers you get. This is a lot of speculation, though, because you left out a lot of pertinent information
