    Yes. Many of us do.

I kept mine current after I became a cop. Makes buying new guns faster and easier.

why. LEOSA covers all states. i get it for retired guys whose old department are stingy about LEOSA quals but if you are current sworn, not really a reason

Yes, because in my state at least, it’s strongly encouraged that we get the license to carry as it has exemptions for us that are not afforded to just badge and agency ID.

I had a CCW before I was an officer and I keep it current. Can’t hurt, right? All I have to do is pay a small fee every 5 years and attest that I have completed X hours of training.

In Mi, I believe officers have to have a CPL to purchase otherwise get a purchase permit from their county.

Yes, and you should. LEOSA doesn’t cover if you if you’re not an active officer (ie, suspension or Admin leave).

No. My agency specifically prohibits this by policy. Stupid, but it is what it is.

I had it before I got on and kept it current. Once I left there was no waiting or transition. My state also waives the training classes and required refreshers for active LEOs and active licensed armed security so there was really no reason not to hold on to it.

I encourage people to have theirs. You never know when you might get put on admin leave or if you’ll decide to pursue another career.

For a small fee it makes sense. I don’t want my ability to carry to be employment dependent.

Yes. Before my state had constitutional carry officers kept CCWs. Reason being your LE credentials can be suspended. Generally your CCW doesn’t get suspended unless convicted or at least charged with a crime. For example you’ve been involved in a situation that looks suspicious you might have your LE credentials suspended or you might be fired. Usually your CCW would remain valid unless convicted of a crime.

Yes 100%. You get suspended, fired, transfer and between sworn status or otherwise get your credentials taken away the turds you’ve arrested don’t care. Always be armed.

In my state, if you’re a fed, you can’t buy guns without it.
