Whenever a new season of a show comes out I need some sort of refresher, often I’ll rewatch the previous season or if it’s a short show I might watch it fresh from episode one. Even if I love a show, I barely remember anything about it a week later, let alone the months/years that some shows take between seasons. Is this normal?

I need the refresher also, don’t worry!
I feel like it’s a common thing, though, since they often will put out a summary video or have a “last season on …” segment.
I usually like to rewatch the previous seasons or at least the last season before the new one. I tend to remember main plot points but forget most of the minor details and smaller plotlines between seasons. I also prefer to binge shows than watch them one week at a time for the same reason I tend to forget things after a week of not thinking about it.
I’ve definitely started a new season of a show and spent the first couple episodes confused and trying to remember what happened last season more than once.
I think this is common, that’s why most shows always do recaps of the last season right before the next one. I just did this with The Last of Us season 2. It’s been TWO YEARS since the first season came out and I haven’t rewatched it since. I needed the recap at the beginning to remind myself of a lot of the main plot points and characters.
2 minute summary of the previous season is utter useless. Netflix HBO Disney Prime please start making 30 -50 minutes summaries. It would make series so much more enjoyable. And I don’t have time to start every series again before watching a new season. Nor do I want to.
