For my fellow Latinos currently living in the US, or have family in the US: what is your biggest fear right now?
I’ll start, mine is my husband being deported despite being a natural born citizen, just because he is fully tattooed and brown. Another is my immigrant Dominican father who is also a citizen now being grabbed by ICE simply because he’s brown and his English isn’t perfect.

my biggest fear is living my entire life supporting a warmongering imperialistic oligarchy (just by being in it) and then having kids who grow up to be MAGA mentality.
That I’m stuck in yet another dictatorship and that I’m going to see my life disappear yet again, but as an adult this time. This has been a long-time fear of mine. And the people who know perfectly well what a dictatorship is like are clapping for it because they are unbelievably stupid.
None? I just hope the US collapses ASAP and we can move on
being deported and going back home is the best case scenario, worse case scenario we get put into camps and become enslaved or killed
I’m not living in Panama right now, but I fear what the us can do, Panama is defenseless and its population has never done anything to deserve being targeted like that.
True there’s a lot of Chinese population in Panama but so does the US and even more so what’s the point?
War. Nothing more.
Disinformation, deportations have been happening since the us was founded. This is not even the worst number of deportations in the last 25 years. Trump is just more vocal about it. I have some family members in the US, all of them with papers, I do not think there is a chance they get problems. On the other hand, for people that are undocumented I hope they stay safe.
My fear is that Trump will suddenly decide to make the Amazon “INTERNATIONAL”, as an excuse to extract the rare earth ores that he wants to steal from Ukraine (if he can’t steal it), since the USA uses this ore a lot in its technology and would do everything to get it.
What I really care and I’m afraid of are coup or military interventions in Latin America. First because this administration is so stupid, it will be extremely bloody and reckless. Second, because I don’t want to live without democracy.
I don’t want a brazilian Bukele in power and I don’t want to become the lap dog of the US.
I’m sorry about this being your concern
Family in USA is going dark on social media, too much nuance between country of origin, maiden last name and citizenship/current visas for us to risk going there. I’m not planning on going there ever again.
Not being able to visit family and watch them grow up
Nothing
If the USA survives these stupid times
The collapse of US i guess
Going back to the DR/Puerto Rico is not the end of the world.
I don’t/can’t care, no matter who was in charge I was going to be disappointed the only question to ask is how was I going to be disappointed. Right now, my priority is finances, education and then leave. I don’t know where I’m going, but I hate what’s going on in Puerto Rico and the US.
I can’t live like this and I don’t want my kids to either.
I don’t live in the USA nor have relatives out friends there, but I’m worried at the main military potency being lead by the new right. It was bad enough when the USA followed the international order themselves created, now that they are determined to broke it as a show of strength I fear that friends and foes will suffer their economic, political, ecological and military disasters.
I honestly think Trump will pass away within 3 years..
That they won’t invade Canada
Death camps for my relatives who while they are now law abiding green card holders, do not have a squeaky clean past
The US will collapse, it’s just a matter of time.
I realize this is a bit out of topic, but politics have turned Americans into valueless husks without a moral backbone. They all realize there’s a problem, but none of the two political sides refuse to bend the knee and be the better person. Respect, discipline, and empathy are completely out of the picture if the other person aligns themselves with the opposite political party, which is terrible. People are now getting sold extremist agendas, left or right, no in betweens, when every issue should be evaluated in a case to case basis. This combined with the antagonistic nature of American politics make the population extremely easy to play. They’ll only stop bickering against each other when there’s nothing left, then they’ll be confused about what happened while being left with nothing.
They don’t realize something Latinos have after tons of trial and error, and many tyrannies: government doesn’t give a single f about you or me, so let’s respect each other, be kind to each other, help each other out whenever we can, so that the dumbass regulations coming from the ones above DONT MATTER. All you need is values for your society to work, then whatever government does becomes white noice, because people just help each other out so it doesn’t matter. Sense of community and decent human values have been lost in the US, the general population has to learn about it quick or face collapse.
TLDR: If your government is F-ing you, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. Help people out no matter what they think of you, respect people, empathize with them, stop holding grudges and practice discipline. If everyone thought this way, there would be no reason to fear the government.
I really have no other place to go.
I am from Panamá, and my biggest fear is being invaded. Trump is sending his “heralds” (Marco Rubio and Pete Hegseth) to intimidate us, send marines some days ago… tried to install bases here again… Yeah, thats my biggest fear.
Probably Trump continuing to deport random people to El Salvador, or a full scale invasion of Panama.
the fear already happened lots of my co workers were deported ..
The reality I feel is there is a percentage of white people who will never accept non-white people as American. ICE has tried to detain Puerto Ricans and Native Americans so they are being needlessly aggressive. This president has allowed that percentage to grow and/or become louder, more aggressive. My personal biggest fear is that my rights a US born citizen could be stripped from me or my family. I am currently looking into officially claiming my Mexican citizenship and possibly leaving the country. I know that seems extreme but long term I don’t see myself in the US. It’s is becoming more and more difficult to see myself retiring as costs inflate and to be honest I am over the hustle lifestyle of the US. I know everyone place has problems but the US is looking less and less stable.
That there’s no due process, there’s a constitutional crisis, and that the current administration is seemingly preparing to intervene militarily
Being bombed. Tariffs, deportations and whatever don’t scare me quite as much as that.
