How much is a cone of ice cream from the truck for you guys?

r/

I just paid 7 dollars for a single vanilla cone from Mr. Softee here in NY and I’m feeling a little bewildered. I remember them being 2.50 not even that long ago!!!

Are you in New York State or New York City? 7 sounds insane.

I haven’t seen an ice cream truck that sold actual cones of ice cream in a very very long time.

Its always prepacked garbage and I refuse to participate.

I’m not paying a 500% mark up over retail for a novelty item that is significantly worse than what I already have in my fridge.

That said, I am also a snob who churns their own homemade ice cream.

Take the price of anything in Manhattan and divide it by two. That is the normal price for most of the country

I haven’t bought an ice cream from a truck in years. As a kid I remember it was $1-2 for one prepackaged item that you can get in bulk from the store for like $5 at the time lol.

As for cones that it an outrageous price and even today you can find one for a few dollars usually. Like from a local scoop shop or fast food place.

I legit thought Mr Tastee was something the Pete And Pete show made up. I had no idea Mr Tastee was based on an actual business with its own kind of creepy mascot.

I’m pretty sure I paid 4.25 for a cup of soft serve from Mr. Softee about 2 weeks ago.

That sounds like nyc prices. I doubt people in my rural ass impoverished town can pay anything near that.
I’ve not bought from an ice cream truck in a while, but I’ve seen the prices on the side. Usually like 3-5 bucks, which still seems like a lot to me

No idea, but this post has made realize I haven’t had an ice cream cone in years, so I’m not even sure what I’d expect to pay

Soft serve at the local grocery store is $0.25 for a small cone. Hard hand scooped at sweet peaks is like $5/scoop now. I only get sweet peaks if I have a gift certificate now days.

    Sounds about right in NYC

In Japan, it was about 300 yen or $2 USD.

  12. YB9017 Avatar

Yeah. I’m in Atlanta and Jeni’s is charging like 7-8 per cone.

  13. Redbubble89 Avatar

maybe $4-5 for soft serve regular sized.

Custard because of weight, max I would go $7

  14. qu33nof5pad35 Avatar

They ripped you off. It’s about $5 a cone now.

  15. CupBeEmpty Avatar

That sounds like a ton of money for ice cream.

I haven’t gotten any from a truck in a long time so I don’t really know.

We live in London atm and they sell the nastiest fake ice cream here at the ice cream trucks. It’s not even very cold. It’s like oil, kinda like a cool whip topping or something with this nasty chocolate scrapings in it. Even the dairy ice cream in stores has coconut fat, lol.

I can see why people prefer gelato in Europe.

Never in my life have I seen an ice cream truck selling cones – always novelties. If you’re lucky, they’ll have candy and/or drinks.

  18. neronga Avatar

$5 was normal like 20ish years ago at least here on the west coast. Probably closer to 8-10 now

  19. Free-Sherbet2206 Avatar

Sadly, I’ve never bought anything from an ice cream truck.

Back in my day, a Choco-Taco was $2, and a SpongeBob with gumballs for eyes was a Dolla’ seventyfive.

  21. SirTheRealist Avatar

I don’t remember the last time I bought one but if I saw it is was $7 I would turn the other way.

  22. PrpleSparklyUnicrn13 Avatar

I’m in NY, too. Last summer it was about $4 – $6, depending on the event and truck.

  23. dgmilo8085 Avatar

$7 is $5 too much for a cone.

  24. CatBoyTrip Avatar

not sure about a cone but a milkshake is like $5. lexington, kentucky.

  25. Artistic_Scene_8124 Avatar

Sounds about right for the tourist areas of NYC. Go outside of midtown and you can find a cone for $3-4

  26. Available_Honey_2951 Avatar

I think the Ben and Jerry’s shops are priced at about that.

  27. HughLouisDewey Avatar

    Bloody 9 quid for 2?!

  28. FellNerd Avatar

    Like 2 dollars for me

  29. NoneOfThisMatters_XO Avatar

That’s because it’s NYC and everything is expensive as hell there.

  30. cherrycokeicee Avatar

my local spot doesn’t have any single item on the menu over $5 (and the $5 thing is a huge banana split). a cone is like $2-3.

  31. 0le_Hickory Avatar

Paid $4 the other day for my daughter and felt ripped off.

  32. nylondragon64 Avatar

What I was pissed when a small cone was 3 buck here in long island. Guess it’s been awhile.

  33. IHaveBoxerDogs Avatar

I think for a regular cone it’s around $5. But ice cream trucks don’t usually start until Memorial Day weekend around here. Sundaes are probably $7.

  34. sprachkundige Avatar

As a fellow New Yorker, I was horrified to learn that in much of the rest of the country, ice cream trucks don’t sell soft-serve! I mean what’s even the point.

$7 is too much, I feel like $5 would be my max.

  35. Conchobair Avatar

I ain’t got the knees to chase him down anymore. I see him drive by almost every day though.

  36. groetkingball Avatar

From a truck its going to be expensive. I go to braums and can get a cone of any flavor for about 1.50

  37. CinemaSideBySides Avatar

I’ll be honest, I didn’t know you could get a cone of ice cream from an ice cream truck, I thought it was all the pre-packaged stuff like ice cream sandwiches and bomb pops and whatnot.

I’ll have to flag down the ice cream man next time I hear him.

  38. Calm-Vacation-5195 Avatar

I was visiting NYC last spring and bought an ice cream cone from a truck. $16 for a single cone. The price wasn’t posted anywhere, but I didn’t imagine it would be that expensive.
