How can I stop coming off as annoying to other people?

At least, I can really only assume that is what’s happening since no one will say anything like that directly. I’ve come to the realization that if I never initiated a conversation with someone, I would never hear from anyone again. Not only that, but whenever I do initiate conversations it doesn’t go well either. If it’s online, most of the time I won’t get any response at all. In person, a lot of the time people will be nice and respond, but also will usually try to get away from me and exit the conversation as quickly as possible. This is all by people who know me and are “acquaintances” by the way not just random strangers. I can’t really tell what the problem is but no one is direct with their words so it makes it a lot more difficult as well.
