There was an actor on Dark Shadows named Joel Crothers who I thought was very handsome. About 10 years later, I got a summer job at age 19 as a stagehand. On my first day, the act was a troupe of various soap opera actors. My job that day was to stand backstage and pull back the curtain as each performer was introduced. Who should walk up to me but … Joel Crothers. And, he was wearing a torn shirt (the joke was he’d been pursued by a mob of female fans). Our eyes met and suddenly I was 8 years old again.
My mom kept a note that I asked her to mail to them. I wrote how they are my favorite band in the whole world, backwards letters and all. Later on my crush became Rivers Cuomo from Weezer.
