For those who are not from Argentina , what time do you have dinner and what’s the portion size of your dinner usually?

r/

So as we all know by now , that Argentinians eat dinner very late compared to most of the world , but based on what I’ve seen, Argentinians also eat dinner very light as if it’s a snack instead of an actual meal

So I am curious what time do the rest of latam eat dinner ?
And how big are your dinner portions ?

In my case, I have dinner at 20:00 usually when I’m at home. If I go out with friends it’s usually around 21:00 or later, but if I haven’t have my merienda then I might have dinner as early as 19:00.

As for portions… definitely lighter than lunch but not just a snack.

Around 11, but this is because most of my schedule revolves around the afternoon and night. Unless I eat out, I’ll just have an iced coffee with some sweet bread.

In Chile we call it once and it’s basically a second breakfast. I usually have it between 8 and 9 pm.

  4. Brave_Ad_510 Avatar

Around 7-8pm. It’s usually pretty heavy, but all of our meals are pretty heavy.

    06:30 pm to 8:00 pm

It’s the same size of what I take for lunch unless I am not hungry enough.

For my family in Venezuela, dinner is around 7pm. It’s whatever is more convenient, like lunch leftovers or canned products. The portions tend to be smaller.

For most Venezuelans I know, our biggest meal is lunch. Even breakfast is larger than dinner. The portions are larger and the plate preparations are more involved. But, I don’t know if I am in the mayority.

Sorry to butt in but everyone I know eats full blown meals at night, I’ve never heard of anyone having a light snack at night

Anywhere from 8 pm to 10 pm with some variations depending on the family. When I lived with my mom we usually ate dinner at 9 pm since that’s the time that worked best for us due to the at which we needed to wake up to go to work/school.

Once my wife and I moved in together it’s anywhere from 10 pm to 1 am, as we both start working either very late in the morning or past midday.

A for portions, I think for most people it’s the biggest meal in the day. Breakfast for us is usually light or very light (coffee or mate with a small snack to eat, like toast, bread, or something link that). I eat lunch in the afternoon and it’s a light meal, and my wife doesn’t eat lunch at all.

In Chile we have the same. “Once” is at 7pm and is tea and bread (with avocado, eggs, butter, marmalade, honey, ham or cheese) and/or small portions of food. But there are a lot of families that after once they have dinner at 10pm or 11pm, only if their once was too light.

    This is once:

Btw, “once” is pronounced as 11 in Spanish. Not as “once” in English.

On average, at 8 pm in Peru, we eat a lot for dinner…for example, a main course + coffee with bread.

Depends, if iI’m by myself, between 8 and 10, if I’m going to dinner with friends or family, between 9 and 12, and as for portions, if I’m by myself whatever I feel like, if its with friends or family, always a full meal

Depends on how bad hyperinflation is that day.

Dinner is not light in Argentina. Merienda is light.

Dinner is usually the same as lunch (like lunch’s leftovers), pizza, pastas, empanadas, etc. A full meal.

Very late. I guess the main “dinner” meal is usually between like 6-9PM but also a small snack like a glass of milk and a small pastry or something at around 11PM.

7-9, depending each family usually it says that dinner should be a small plate like sandwich or cereal but some Families actually get meal with rice meat and everything

In Paraguay we eat merienda at around 4-5, which is just light snack, and then dinner is like 9-10 and it’s a full meal. We usually go to sleep right after dinner

  17. sxndaygirl Avatar

You might be confusing merienda (afternoon meal) for dinner. I (and other friends) have ridiculous amounts of food for dinner any day lmao

  18. brendamrl Avatar

I was raised to have dinner between 6 and 8, I have dinner mostly around 9pm because work

  19. gairinn Avatar

Me and my family usually have it around 7 and 8 hours

  20. sailorvenus_v Avatar

Around 7-8 but we dont actually eat dinner, we have Tea/coffee and bread with something, we call it “once” or “tecito”. Some days you add some type of sweet.

For special ocassions you can have once/tecito with things like pizza, completos(chilean hotdog), cake if its your birthday, etc.

There are some people who actually eat dinner everyday but the majority just do “once”.

when i was in brazil my family usually had dinner around 9

  22. arturocan Avatar

8pm and heavy. but a lot of uruguayans have it around 9 to 10.

  23. colorfulraccoon Avatar

6-7pm but I’m an exception, most of the country dines later like 8-9pm.

I eat a meal but that is lighter than lunch. Lunch is usually our heaviest meal of the day. Since I dine early I may have a light snack before bed depending on the day.

Anytime between 7-9pm, usually earlier if I don’t work out (I usually do that before dinner). It might be leftovers or a lighter meal compared to lunch, like a sandwich, soup or wrap and maybe a dessert.

Most Americans have dinner way earlier than that though.
