On the flip side of this, one of my dearest friends is from Vietnam and moved to the US when she was about 19 or so. I met her when we were both 24. Her english was fairly rough still because she mostly went to school and worked multiple jobs. Her parents and her brother were also all working their asses off in multiple jobs to keep them all afloat. She just didn’t have the opportunity to really learn American slang and she was also very shy and was afraid to ask questions. When I met her, she had just graduated from college and we were both starting our careers in the same office. As we settled into our friendship and started to become really close, I noticed she had trouble with plural words and she explained that in her language, whether you had one pen or ten pens, it was still “pen”. So I explained to her how it works in english, that when it’s more than one, we add the “s”. Well…
I did a terrible job of explaining because she took me literally. We were invited to happy hour, which she insisted was Happy Hours because it was from 5-7pm, so it was “hours” since there were two of them. We’ve been best friends for 18 years now and she still occasionally brings this up as her favorite memory of me and the look on my face. And yes, she still will only refer to it as Happy Hours.
Back to your question, in English – there are also goggles, binoculars, jeans, tweezers, and I’m sure there are others.
