sociopath is a strong word , i find much more often that people hurt others out of fear , thus the question appears – what scares a person into thinking that calling others robots is a good idea ?
Care to explain? How does calling another human an NPC mean they are a sociopath?
Because I disagree. I don’t think you know what a sociopath is. And probably don’t even know what the term NPC is or what that means when referring to another human.
The term sociopath refers to someone living with antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) — as does the term psychopath.
The most recent edition of the “Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders” (DSM-5-TR), which mental health professionals use to diagnose mental health conditions, defines ASPD as a consistent disregard for rules and social norms and repeated violation of other people’s rights.
People with the condition might seem charming and charismatic at first, at least on the surface, but they generally find it difficult to understand other people’s feelings. They often:
break rules or laws
behave aggressively or impulsively
feel little guilt for harm they cause others
use manipulation, deceit, and controlling behavior
So, how does calling someone an NPC make that person a sociopath? If someone says “that person is an NPC”, does that mean they are charming and charismatic? Find it difficult to understand others feelings? Break rules or laws? Behave aggressively or impulsively? Feel little guilt for harming others? Or use manipulation, deceit, or control behaviour?
An NPC in gaming terms means a “Non-Player Character”. It’s a computer controlled character, not player controlled. They lack agency, free will, and independent thought and action. They have pre-programmed responses and behaviours, and don’t stray outside of those. The player can do different thing, but the NPC will always stick to certain specific and minimal responses. When it comes to humans, an NPC human is someone who doesn’t think for themselves, doesn’t step outside the box, and has certain minimal pre-programmed behaviours they stick to and don’t stray from.
Clearly you’ve never run across someone who literally has no other description than NPC. I’ve run across a couple before and it’s deeply disturbing and totally inexplicable.
It’s kinda antisocial and egocentric to dehumanize other people as NPCs as if they don’t have their own full lives and problems and thoughts, yeah. Some people have never experienced sonder and take pride in it.
I agreeeee
I always stick to the understanding that every person around me has lived every day, week, year with their own shit going on. To label them NPCs feels wrong

I would say they are sociopaths, but yeah, usually they are weird. I’d put them in a similar category as the dudes that refer to women as “females”.
This is npc beehavior

What if I also refer to myself as an NPC?
