My hamster did NOT die a crazy weird death and lived to the age of 3. AMA

r/

I’ve seen people genuinely shocked about hamsters living to a certain age without being eaten by a dog or vacuumed by their dad or something. My boy Morb just passed away and I’m using this to cope for some reason, so ask me anything 👍

You sure it was a hamster?

Morb is a very good name for a hamster. Did Morb have one of those cages with tubes connecting multiple pods?

My now 13 year old daughter lovingly took care of her hamster and protected him from our golden retriever. He had a very large cage and was so well socialized he could hang out on your lap while watching TV.

Ratatouille made it to just under 3 and she was so upset when he died. Even after a busy day at school and sports, she would come home and spend time with him. I don’t have a question for you, just offering condolences and saying good job for doing the right thing for a small animal.

My bestie totally loves Hamsters and they all die pretty peacefully at 3. I was honestly confused about the meme.

But yea, are you planning on getting another one?

Also had a hamster live to die of old age without incident. When we got him, he was a little under a year old. Had him for 3 years so he was almost 4 when he sadly passed last July

My brother and I had a hamster when we were 8 and 10. Like Morb, he lived around 3 years and had an extravagant life. He ended up getting a tumor on his tummy and passed quite quickly. Poor little guy, RIP Hammie … and Morb!

Since it’s an ama: do you have any other pets, or plan to get a new pet?

I had two sister hamsters and one day I was holding one and it bit me so I accidentally dropped it like 4 inches onto a soft couch surface and it had a seizure and so I put it in the cage with its sister hoping it would wake up and feel better but when I came back a little while later the sister had eaten off its face I have no idea if it was even dead when this started or just still passed out
