I’m getting testosterone checked and the doctor said to not masturbate for 48 hours prior to the test. I’ve gotten it tested before with no such caveat. Just curious if anyone else here has got those orders from a doctor.

Is sex an acceptable substitute?
They might be doing a PSA test at the same time. I’ve been told no sexual activity at least 24 hours before a PSA test.
Not sure if it affects testosterone, but if so, think about whether you want your result to be accurate or if you want it to be low.

My guess is prolactin. This can be elevated for 48 hours post orgasm.

You shouldn’t ejaculate for 48-96 hours before a testosterone or PSA test. The reason is, your testosterone and PSA levels vary greatly before and after you ejaculate. You aren’t even supposed to ride a bike or a lawnmower before those tests because the movement on your grundle pushes against the prostate. Then, if your levels are off you can get on some medecine or imaging tests you don’t need and don’t want to pay for.
Source: just had a TURP surgery to remove 45g of prostate tissue and previously got yelled at for beating off so much that they screened me for cancer and it cost $1200 cause my PSA went from 2.4 to 8.62.

Why is that a problem?
I know that having sex/masturbation a day or two before getting a PSA (for prostate) can affect the results.
Recently, right before my doctor did my prostate check he said “Danny, try not to get hard”. I replied “My name isn’t Danny”? He replied “No, mine is”.
I’ve had my testosterone tested without being asked something like that. It isn’t like masturbating depletes your testosterone supply. Being sexually active can increase your levels.

If you can’t go 48 hours my guess is your T levels are just fine.
This stuff doesn’t make sense. Why wouldn’t they want an accurate representation of your levels, rather than making a special effort to boost your levels as high as possible, then immediately after the testing they go back to their normal routines, and their levels drop back down.
Weeks? I go like 2 or 3 days and I have to wash the bed sheets.

I’m a doctor and I think your docs advise is idiot. Get good sleep, eat right, minimize alcohol use, and draw your blood early in the morning. That will do much more to get you an accurate measurement
