How common are cat-calls these days?

r/

So, I was just at our local farm country grocery establishment with my two small kids and husband left in the truck. I ran in and grabbed what we needed and returned to the parked vehicle to load the paper bagged groceries.

As I was using my vehicle’s foot-kick activated trunk entry, a man next to us leaned out of his window and said something to the affects of “honey, you’re lucky you are so good at using that feature otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to stop myself if I saw you bent over that trunk”.

Mind you this is midday on a Friday. Person in question was likely 55-65 year old male. Was this man intoxicated? Maybe. How often does this happen though?

I’m a man and I haven’t been cat called since college.

    Also, gross.

It’s died off a lot from what I understand. Most men have been harshly trained out of that sort of thing.

Shit I stopped myself from giving a respectful.complent to a female professor who was really dressed up one day. No point in taking the risk.

Not a girl, but I had a pretty good looking long term gf and we had one incident with a senior citizen once and I had other family present too, we all just kinda looked at each other very confused lol. I’d like to think it’s not that common anymore, but there’s still those unhinged guys out there that don’t understand social appropriateness.

I believe it’s now illegal or NYC. Or something happened.

In my experience they are almost never heard. In NYC possible. In rural areas you will be asked for “smile” but outside of that you shouldn’t expect.

I get cat called every time I wear my kilt.

My girlfriend gets them all the time when she goes out on a walk on this particular main road. Mostly honks and cat calls every other time. But she also wears crop tops and spandex daily. I’ll be on the phone with her when it happens and i’ll ask “what are you wearing” sigh

If you’re a woman going for a jog and cars are passing by on a busier road, it’s pretty damn common to get a shout out the window. Usually some dumbass guys from 20s to middle aged.

I’ve seen it happen a ton and my gf has had it happen often. I live in a city with tons of young workers and lots of sunshine.

Hell . I’ve been scolded for holding a door open for a female.

I thought this was socially “banned” for obvious reasons-but now with second election and current political climate-those who’ve been biting their tongues are now feeling “free to exercise their free speech”…

You were sexually harassed, not cat-called.

FYI, just went through my company’s discrimination and sexual harassment training, so I’m pretty much a pro.

To seriously answer the question, it’s really a parenting issue. I’m 35 and was taught that it is disrespectful, so I didn’t do it.

As someone who works outside I see it daily, if the girl has a nice shape and likes to wear spandex is pretty much unavoidable in a city environment.

I get cat called every so often. Usually it is drunk girls, but I still get hit with the, “i usually don’t do this, but…” proceeds to invite me to her room at the hotel I’m staying at, or invites me to get a drink with her, or asks for my number. I usually politely decline unless they try and grab my beard and then i say, “fuck off” in the nicest way i can muster.

I work in construction and have yet to see a man cat call a woman. I did see it once while in the army…

… guy rolled down the window in the Hilux we were driving around the big marine base in Afghanistan. We were army infantry, mind you, so we were only on this base for a short visit. We hadn’t seen women in 9 months, or so. So guy rolled down the window when he sees a group of female marines walking to the chow hall and yells, “HEY YO BITCH,” as we pass them

He turns to us in the truck with him and says with the dead pan seriousness, “they like it when you call them bitch.” I didn’t think he was right, but he was my Platoon Sargeant, so i just said OK

I’m definitely never doing that lol. I can’t even bring myself to tell a coworker they are looking good.

I call my cat daily. It rarely works. Better if I have food ready or make food noises suddenly I’m so important.

I find most cats come when they want and demand attention. If you give them attention first they get annoyed.

Trying to get them to come inside is a challenge, cat calls don’t work either.

If you mean by the accepted definition, hopefully no longer frequently. But in essence the same thing happens it’s just in DMs now. My wife’s DMs are filled with dudes throwing absolutely wild opening lines out at her instead of saying hello, my favorite is opening by asking her to peg them.

I’ve never seen people cat calling other in the streets, certainly not men. I’ve seen a lot of women taking inappropriately to young boys in my life, however.

  19. GrizzlyDust Avatar

Honestly you tell me! I never see it happen because I don’t do that
